ORIGINAL: SweetDommes I understand the need to feel safe, but owning a gun is not a guarentee of safety. Neither is anything else. Getting a firearm *and* learning to use it properly is as close as it gets. And yes, I know martial arts, I've taught self-defense, and I'm not belittling those things. But if you seriously think a few months, or even years, of any martial art is comparable to a loaded smith and wesson you're living in a dream world. To the original poster: you're not crazy for thinking what you're thinking. On the other hand, you're *probably* wrong. The guy is probably just obnoxious, not a murderer. I wouldn't take any chances with him, but I wouldn't sit up nights worrying about him either. Do what you can do, then let it go. The police cannot protect you. The police cannot protect anyone. The best they can do is come around and punish the offender later, after he's done what he wants. If you do decide to arm yourself, please, please, please don't think the weapon by itself will protect you. It's a powerful tool, and dangerous if used improperly. So learn how to use it. I recommend these folks if they have a chapter near you - they're freaky-folks friendly and generally very approachable.
