Creative St. Andrews cross ideas

Status: offline 		I've been kicking some around ideas for building a creative St. Andrews cross.
You know something besides the Run of the Mill Cross.  

I'm also looking for great add-on ideas.  Such as incorperating a torture seat.

I was wondering if anybody has seen or has interesting ideas. 
Both functional and/or artistic ideas welcomed.

Status: offline 		Yes! Make the intersection of the two beams (the "cross" point) a joint that allows the cross to be both upright and bent at a right angle. Ideally, also make it possible for the upper and lower "legs" (the V on top, and the upside-down V on the bottom) to vary in angle--so that, in other words, the arms and the legs could be closer to one another.

One of the things I like about mine is the ability to approach the cross from all directions and to use it as a stable suspension point. It's not situated against a wall, as I've often seen, but it was set up so it could adequately be supported by a rafter (do I mean a rafter? It's a beam parallel to the floor that seems to support the roof, and it's not ordinarily exposed in finished ceilings). This makes it much more versatile, and facilitates multi-player scenes.

Status: offline 		We built one, pretty standard, though it was designed for easy and quick assembly and disassembly so it was mobile. Another feature is to add a "fulcrum" support at the back center with drop down leg supports so it can be tilted like a flat table.

I can add a bit here.  The biggest problem with the crosses is the functionality that  you are seeking ideas on.
My brief for making them was;
sturdiness and for heavy play, free standing, lay against a wall, set up in rough terrain, anchor to a beam, aesthetics, ease of access to victim by a molesting 3rd party to kneel/bend behind the cross, ease to clean and most importantly portability (to fit in a large bag or under a bed) without requiring alot of set-up or take down time.

standard is two poles 8 to 9' long and 5 - 7 " wide.

I cut 6" (150mm) x roughly 3 ft x 19mm (3/4") radiata pine planks.  The 3/4" thickness is a standard buy in Aust. I then arranged all pieces to stacked 4 planks high that intersected to each other (laminating is the term) so they fitted together like intersecting open fingers on each two hands. This meant that each 'pole' consists of three intersecting pieces to make the full length.  The 'cross joint' is then cut carefully thru two thicknesses (carefully cos here is your main loading point) so that when assembled the poles are flush to each other.

The whole cross can be painted, stained and estapoled or oiled. Add extra O ring bolts on top points for differing user heights. O ring screws are placed in the top of each pole for attachment to beams or wall and a small metal foot on each base to screw to floor is necessary.  A third lesser pole of 3 thickness is made for your back support and this attaches to a small cross beam across the top of cross(which can be padded and double as a head support for a spacing victim) for free standing.  A further bracing wooden piece (not rope as too unpredictable for heavy players) is  attached between the cross and lesser support pole.

All finger joints take long wooden screws and hinged joints are 'removeable pins' or the 'slide disengage' hinges.   The standard cross takes a battery drill and three mins to set up, the full free stander  takes 5-8 mins.  

For outdoor rough terrain play- each base has a 'wooden footplate' that is joined by simply fitting it under the leg as the leg dimension is cut out of the footplate.

These crosses were used in a Melbourne play club which at times included what I'd term- some very heavy duty play.   There are always addittions / horses for courses and what suits one,doesn't another.   I'd suggest  you look at some in action and find what suits you.


EDITED HERE, Sorry bud, the torture seat can be easily added by having a plank that is slide hinged across the lower half front of the cross with a right angle piece on each that takes a bolt thru each into each main pole.  (Would support 300 pounds) and take 1 min to attach/disattach.   all bolts have wingnuts with spring washers.

I've only been on one, so I don't know what's standard per se, but this one had a winch that connected to suspension cuffs,(the cuffs were attached to a metal bar).. and I have to say, hearing the "click, click, click" as the handle to the winch was turned, feeling your arms rising..-laughs- If I say anymore I'm gonna need a cold shower...

Status: offline 		We have set up two Dungeons and played in many others. The KISS principle applies. The more complicated it is, the more things there are to go wrong and the less you will use it. With all the range of wonderful furniture available, there were only two pieces of equipment consistently used - the cross and the table - ie one vertical, one horizontal. These days we focus on adding to our toy collection, not our furniture. Much more flexible, and money better spent.

Mmmmm.. I was thinking about using a cross as a hanging plant holder when not in use.. I can image the thoughts of sexy bound half naked sub/slave girl bound in the middle at the same time... (images of a topical rainforest and flashbacks of Jane bound helpess to a jungle tree...)  wonder if I could hook up a spray mister like those found in the produce section of a grocery store.  MMmmmm....  beautiful trickles of water forming on the skin and plant leaves.  Would need to have the right lighting arrangement of course...

I'm trying to grasp this idea a little better.. can you elaborate more upon it?   You said your arms were rising into the postion of the cross itself?  Kind of like a medevil rack device but only vertical using a cross?  Trying to figure out the metal bar part as well...

I had a cement wall next to my fireplace.  So I set some eye bolts into it and put some hanging plants up.  Worked wonderfully, and had that chilling cement cold sensation for the warm skin touching it while I heated up the other side.

Eye bolts in the doorway work pretty well.  Or even eye bolts set into ceiling joists to support the weight.

The top part was very much like a medieval rack..I wish I could draw a picture on here, will do the best I can with words. The bottom and vertical beam were fairly typical. The winch was on the side of the vertical beam with the cable going through guide loops (eyehooks maybe? I didn't look that closely) to the top of the vertical beam (I believe there was a pulley there). The pulley guided the cable to the wooden horizontal crossbeam, which had a metal bar attached to the bottom..at each end of this bar was where the suspension cuffs could be hooked. ( I think it may have been a spreader bar).  So in other words, the arms were spread eagle as they would be on a standard cross, and turning the handle of the winch raised the horizontal cross beam to the desired height. Once it was at height, there was a pin to be inserted to keep it there, but I honestly can't remember if the pin was inserted into the winch mechanism, or a hole in the vertical beam..it seems like it was connected to the winch somehow. Not sure how much this helps, but hopefully made the picture clearer.

Status: offline 		Our cross is a fairly standard X tilted back on a comfortable angle with a back leg like an easel and chains connecting the back leg to the front. This makes it self-standing so it can be located anywhere in the Dungeon. There are wooden grips at the top and eyelets for attachment. The base is a broad plank angled to make it at right angles to the tilt of the X so it is comfortable to stand on.

We have a subby seat which can also be used as a Queening stool that while it could be used freestanding against a wall, is most stable when attached to the cross. It is basically 2 long planks with a leg at one end joined at the other at about right angles to each other (we experimented to get a comfy angle that can be maintained for a long time), with a slightly broader seat with a curved edge across where the two join. The back leg of this seat behind the join goes through the lower half of the cross and there is a crossbeam with gaps which lock around the cross legs so it is simply lowered into place, no bolts etc are needed and it is very stable. It enables a subby to be bound with legs wide open (there are eyelets along the seat legs) or for a Domme to sit with Her feet up while sub male kneels between and uses his tongue!

If you're interested, email Me on the other side and Master and I will try to take explanatory photos! We had the maker of the cross in Perth design and make the seat to go with it. he is one clever lil sub! It's much easier to use than to describe!

Status: offline 		Whiplash, there is a cross that can be turned into a tall pedestal, when not in use. Saw it in a link on b.com while back.  There was also spanking benches that have cushions on them, to match your decor. (I believe you would have to supply the fabric.)  I haven't found the link yet, but i will post it when I do
