FateandDestiny -> Most likely an unusal request (6/11/2007 10:32:26 AM)

Hello, this is most likely a very unusual request, I'm looking for a mentor, someone to teach me how to be a better Dom, I'm well versed on the theory behind a D/s relationship, having done a great deal of research on it. (That's my geeky side) and I haven't had a lot of real world experience with being one (That's due to my age). I have several fetishes & Kinks that I know I like, but am once again, only either versed in the theory behind them or have only had the most beginning of experience with them. So upon discovering this sight I have decided to do what I know I can do, learn. While I am actively seeking my special sub (or slave) I am also seeking for a mentor, be it nothing but someone to converse with and learn from discussion or something else. So I ask you, Doms and Mistresses with experience, will you help this greenhorn so he can find his dream sub and make her happy? Cheers! Fate&Destiny

Conversation can easily be had, especially in a forum such as this one. Stick around. As for a real time mentor who spends physical time with you teaching you technique, your best bet is to tap into your local community. Watch people. If they do something you like, ask them about it. Most of us are flattered when asked to share. Once you've observed for a while and you find someone who consistantly does things that interest you AND you've come to respect them, ask them about mentorship. Don't settle for the first person who comes along...and take your time in choosing. There are also national level kink and relationship events that you can plug into.

Houston has a huge bdsm community just start googling.

I will give you some advice you won't heed but I will give it anyway.  Go slow, don't leap into or onto someone.  Listen more than you talk.  Watch and ask questions.  Realize what you think you are seeing as regards to intensity and depth is often the complete opposite of what the participants are feeling.

Don't rush into picking a mentor, take your time, watch their actions far more than their words.

FateandDestiny -> RE: Most likely an unusal request (6/11/2007 12:31:19 PM)

I'll take that advice to heart, I'd be lying if I said I had no desire to rush things. But I realize haste often makes waste. So I'll take my time, and I'll listen, observe and learn. If there is something I have learned, is that when you really, really want to learn something you need sit down, shut up and listen, then ask questions. So *chuckles* Your advice didn't fall on deaf ears michael. Cheers! Fate&Destiny

Not a unusual request at all, most prudent in fact.
I wish I had looked for one 7 yrs ago.
Altho forums like these can be helpfull, there is a LOT of misinformation here and a lot of people who have no clue about reality.
The first step is to seek out a local munch and from there ask about a local Dom group.
We have one here in Portland that meets once a month at a library.

Thank you pupper, This does seem to be a very friendly community. And looking at some profiles, does anyone have any tips on what I should place in my description other then what I already have? Other then the lack of photo's *chuckles* I have to find some.

RealDom69 -> RE: Most likely an unusal request (6/12/2007 10:51:15 PM)

Hi,

Another good place to start is to sub to someone for a while,  whilst it's not for me,  some of the most awesome Doms started as subs they have experienced the other side and know exactly what is going on in a subs mind...

Just a thought

This idea did occur to me, but I don't forsee it working well, and I realize that train of thought may hinder me, but I'd rather overcome a hinderance then cause waves with someone.
