The people of this nation refuse to pay for any health costs they did not cause themselves and try their damnest to get out of those.

The reason this happened is because that place doesn't have any money nor do the people they treat. People should start reaching into their own pocketbooks before they start assigning blame.

Sounds like the entire place is run by cretions and it can't afford to hire anyone better.

Are you really serious? Have you ever been really sick? Caught without benefit of insurance? How do you propose that the "regular" folk pay for catastrophic illness? Any idea of the costs?

Last year I had exactly the same thing happen that this poor woman died from. Thank God the hospital I went to didn't have the same attitude. I had taken a year off of work to care for my ailing Mother and I had just returned to work. I didn't have insurance either but they didn't treat me like I was disposable. I refused the surgery, told the doc I had no way to pay for such a huge expense. He SCREAMED at me...."You are dying and I became a doctor so I could help people who might die without my help. I don't care if I ever see a dime but I am not going to stand here and let you die when there is a chance I can save your life!"

My hospital bills are over $270,000. My doctor charged me less than $2,000...and he told me not to worry over getting it paid. Do you think I should just write them a check? What would you do?

In one flash second your whole life can change. It doesn't wait for a time that is convenient for you. You can be cruising along thinking you've got the world licked and right out of nowhere you become one of the "needy".

Pardon me, but where did I say only the sick needed to pay?

This entire nation needs to cover it's medical bills, the sick and well. Yes I have been sick. I've also worked inside the medical system. I'm sick of HMOs doing their best to never pay a dime while the patient wonders why they are stuck with such high fees. Well gee, medical school and malpractice insurence isn't cheap, thanks to all the suehappy folks out there. Neither is all that fancy equipment. Nothing comes for free and nobody wants to pay.

You want to bitch about that place? Go for it.

But tell me when the last time most people who weren't suffering from a long-term illness, who aren't related to people suffering, opened up their wallets and donated money to hospital in a poor section of town where people are dying for lack of funding to hire the needed staff.

Edited to Add: Oh and by the way - I would pay as much as I could when I could. Right now your situation isn't uncommon because those who can pay try to get out of paying. If there was more money in the system there would be more to cover those who qualify for aid.

My apologies, I completely misinterpreted what you were saying.

On a positive note though, there ARE people who open their wallets and donate. The hospital I has surgery in is in the poor part of town. It is a very good hospital and in some specialties it is tops in the state. The corridors are lined with plaques honoring those who have opened their wallets and donated or those who left their entire estates to the hospital upon their death so that people who couldn't afford care could get it.

Also, just to clarify, I send them money every week...and probably will be for the rest of my life.

The same lady, different spin on her death, in the first one it didnt mention anything about bleeding on the flooor, this time , more focus on the 911 calls, however its a tragedy either way.

Glad to hear some people are donating. I have to admit that I'm jaded. I, quite literally, grew up making the rounds of the hospital floors with my father. I get frustrated because it seems like everyone wants somebody else to pay for everything and the people who really lose are the people like the woman in this article. When this does happen, people point fingers at the doctors, the nurses, the 911 staff, the police... everyone but the community that didn't provide the resources needed to prevent this from happening.

Glad to hear everything turned out well for you though. I'll try to step off my little soapbox now and be a good girl.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation Lockit.
I hope you prevail with your son, don't give up fighting.
Many don't realize how bad and crappy the health care system is until something
happens to them or a family member.
I worked in long term care facilities years ago while I was in school, and people
would be shocked to know the conditions that the employees work under that take care
of their loved ones.
I never worked days, but I always wondered how 1 person could wash and dress and get up
10-12 fragile and disabled senior citizens in about 2 hours or less.
The trick is they don't usually wash them, I could tell you about 100 stories but I will spare you.
Most people don't have a fucking clue.
I pray when I go into a hospital, have surgery, etc. and I pray over the people that care for me and my
loved ones.
I have been lucky to have very good medical care overall, and I don't take it lightly or for granted.
Good luck.

Mz Mia,

Thank you!  You know... to cover up what they did and protocal, they gave my son all sorts of medications that made him hallucinate.  They wanted a lifetime commitment to a hospital where I was told, they wouldn't be able to care for him, so they would most likely tie him to a bed for the rest of his life.  I fought hard... used force (proof of neglect and abuse toward my son) and got him out.  Within a month I had him off all but one medication and soon after, that one.  As soon as I took the medications away, he no longer halucinated!  That was the reason they were going to tie him to a bed for life!  He was just turned 23!

Okay, some of the hallucinations were funny... like the race with Santa to be the new Santa and the time he was in a shower and talked of the two girls in there... I told him to shower with whoever he wanted to as long as I didn't have to pay for his dates... and then the kid riding a bike in a blizzard... dang it I almost fell for that one! lol

But what I don't find funny is that my son was one of three in our city, in one month that I knew about!  Tax payers are paying for the care of these people and lifetime in hospitals on this protocal of giving these medications!  How many others are committed on the tax payers dime needlessly?

I guess I am clueless...  But I do thank you... we are doing okay... it's rough... but I just thank someone I was redheaded mother bear enough to fight to get him out of their hands.  Besides... I take care of him for free at least until I am dead and that will save a bit of money for the tax payers.

ok- here is the boogie man.  numerous ERs in LA and across the country have CLOSED in recent year. plain and simple. often there is no Er for an ambulance to take em to!!!!!

now i live in a rural area. we eventually see what metros see.  at even er in Lewisburg the wait is 5 hours.  yet in Sunbury you can be seen very quickly.  some people hate sunbury hospital, one person told me she wouldnt send her dog there.
However i had 2 of my surgeries there and  I have no complaints. I dont know how they stay afloat.

even as this posts- there are ambulances ISo an ER.

This Hospital MLK, has a history of problems, poor Staffing, Conditions and such.  In the OC Register Newspaper there was an article on this most recent matter and calls to close the hospital.
