Could anyone recommend any particular non toxic ink or waterbased products for use in body art - particularly non permanent (although I would like to hear of experiences of people with permanent also).  It would be really helpful if you know a website to point to as being in the UK, american products may be harder to find here.
 
Also looking for recommendations on brushes and nibs particularly good to use on flesh - trying to avoid any scraping and scatching that can occur.
 
And has anyone worked or used henna to any good effect and ifso, which kinds?

The persians have been using henna tatoos forever. It's not in any interesting colours, but if that doesn't bother you, than it's a pretty good choice.

I've actually seen henna done in blue and yellow, but I don't know where to get it.

I use to do air brush face painting.  Do a search for face painting supplies.  I used a small air brush gun most of the time, but also did brush work.  You can buy any kind of stencil to use for different designs or cut your own.  Free hand is good if you have a planned design.  While the paint is wet you can also add micro fine acrylic glitter for sparkle.

I love body art and being a canvas. Justin is into how still I have to be and the fact he can simply draw anywhere he wishes.......and the effects do take about a week to fade. It's something we enjoy doing.

i concur. ben nye has really good stuff, and its especially good if you break out easily. i haven't had a negative reaction to it yet and i've been using it for a few years now.

You might use henna, indigo, woad, or airbrushed bodypaint set with a sealer. The following site is comprehensive for the natural dyes listed. http://www.hennapage.com/

Although there are modern, safe types of woad, it was originally made with dung. If you use it, just make sure how it is made.

I have never used ink so I'm follwoing this thread with interest. What I have used is wax. I paint it on in the form of words or pictures, sometimes embellished with needles, and then have all the fun of flogging it off again.

I have used both the Mehron and the Ben Nye.  I did a lot of children's events and never had a problem with either product line.  There is also the paint latex for those who are not allergic to it.  Alas I have that allergy.

For my body painting I use artists acrylics and a soft acrylic type brush. This will easily last several hours before it begins cracking even walking around.To clean up it takes some serious scrubbing and for large work can clog drains. If ya decide to go that way then place a piece of net in the tub drain before clean up... you will thank your forthought.

For easier to clean up work I use Sharpie Poster paint markers. They are a tempra base... water soluble and quick. Cleanup is as easy as a shower.

Liquid tempra is the same way... Just soap and water ... Done
