how do you know if he is a true Dom or a Master and are they both the same? please if any one can help it would be apprecated thank you

The same way you know anyone is a "real true" person. As to whether they are the same, that depends on your perspective. You have to work out the answers yourself.

"How do you know if they are for real" Not sure I can answer that one , Mostly I think it comes from spending the time and effort to get to know someone first.

In d/s lifestyle there are many definitions for dominant and master. Kinda depends on the person who you are talking to also what you think a dom and a master should be. To me there is a big diffrence. I am in no way looking for a master type. To me this is much more involved, and controlling. Master brings up images of 27/7 and gorean lifestyle very strict rules.Where a dom is more like a protector alpha type male. But that is just my ideas............ here are some more indept descritptions. Just remember that bdsm is diffrent for everyone and there are no set rules...

I agree with Emerald. Anyone can say they are a Dom/Master, but have no idea what they are doing. I don't think they are the same, but they are just titles anyway.

I personally think a Master is just like a "slave owner" - he will treat you like a piece of property and push your limits to serve himself.

I think a dom is the Man in Charge/Leader/Guider, and in many instances the Mentor. He will tell you what he wants, will have guidlines for you, but he is not beyond approach for changing rules to accomodate you.

I have no idea if that goes with what everyone else thinks though.

Look for consistency. Watch him and study him. Is he sincere? Does he lie? Does he back-track & change his mind often? Does he know what he wants and communicates it clearly to you? Can you rely on him and trust what an outcome will be?
Inconsistancy / Unpredictability = Abuse / Insencerity / Fake

I think a genuine Master or Dom will never leave you to second guess his wishes and he won't constantly change his mind. If you are looking to see if he is a dom vs. an average control freak, then just watch him and study him to see if he's real or not. A fake can't put a show on for very long. And certainly, above all else, when in doubt: Follow Your Instincts. They are your strongest shield.
