James and I together, we share a stuffed puppy dog, and I've noticed he's getting a little, well less than fresh smelling. I've read somewhere else where you could take oders out of an item by putting them in a sack and putting said sack in cat litter crystals or something. Would that work for freshening a less than fresh stuffed toy? If so how exactly was it done? I know someone told me how when I complained about a flogger I bought reaking of cigaretts.

I don't want to wash him, both of us love him to much to risk damaging him by washer, and yeah you could wipe them down with a  damp cloth, I'm just parinoid it'll hurt our stuffed animal. So please no suggestions of soaking it in water, or washing it in the washer lol.

I have put pillows in the dryer on air fluff with a fabric softner sheet to get smells and dust out of them.... It might work for your plush friend

Put him out in the sun for a while.
Or, if you're sure he's clean, put him in the dryer on "air" dry, with some Bounty sheets.
Or, spray him with Febreeze.

Take him in and have him dry cleaned.

Sinergy

p.s.  Still puzzled by the name, as Jerry Seinfeld pointed out there must be some liquid in there somewhere.

YES! Clay cat litter is the bomb!

really, put the critter in a sack of clay clean crumblies and leave it for a few weeks.
Clay absorbs oders. It works!

Maybe if you put yourself in a bag for a few weeks with some clay litter you wouldn't be smelly anymore?

Julia, I laughed so hard in real life I coughed a bit.

Personaly me, no I'd choose to take a bath, but others might like being put in a sack for a week:P

Throw the stuffed animal in a lingerie bag and wash it with mild soap or baby shampoo on the delicate setting on the washer then into the dryer on low, use a hair brush to fluff it up. I have washed just about ALL of the stuffed animals in this place that way; if its just a bit of a 'musky' smell, but the teddy bear in a papper bag, add baking soda to the bag and shake; the baking soda gets rid of the smell and absorbs any moisture. Can't get much simplier.

SRB, puppy is a dog lol. I guess don't make a differnce, but he's much bigger than all but two teddy bears I have. I suppose I could go to the dollar store and pick up several boxes of baking soda, he'd surely require more than one, I'd think.

That is what works. Get a few boxes of (scented) baking soda, and pour them on it. Then with a medium bristle scrub brush, rub it right into "puppy's" material. Wait a few hours, then vacuum. The baking soda will clean all dirt/oil, and leave it smelling fresh. That's how I do the large couch cushions.

It probably sounds silly, but I am worried about harming the stuffed dog, he's very cherished to both of us. I will definatly try the baking soda thing though, sounds very un invasive.

ok,I throughly sprayed him with fabreeze, then briskly dried him off with a clean wash cloth, than ran a brush over his coat, the brush had knobs on it, I'll see if he still smells as fresh once he's been dry a while.

At an airline that I worked for, we saved coffee grounds, dryed them and used them to get smells (especially vomit) out.  Also if placed in a pretty flower pot makes a good odor eliminator for cigarettes (use it as an ashtrray).

I have washed all if my daughters stuffed animals at one time or another.
Put in a zippered pillow case - washing machine- gentle cycle.
Then keeping in pillow case- place in dryer- gentle/low heat
I have never had a single stuffed animal get runied in any way.

Having worked for a Dry Cleaning establishment I can assure you the process is neither dry nor clean.

The best way to clean a stuffed toy is to place it in a plastic bag with some baking soda, shake the baking soda through the critter a bit, then put the opening of the bag over the tube of a vacuum's upholstery attachment and vacuum all the air & soda out. An elastic works well to hold the bag on the end of the tube.  It may take a few shakings & vacuumings but this ought to work.  If the stuffed toy is oily at all, a good brushing with corn starch and then vacuuming ought to perk him up.
