I'm new to this whole lifestyle, and reading some profiles i'm seeing terms and words i'm not sure of the meaning, would anyone know if there is alink or somewhere i can find the meanings?

As they say a word to the wise is often sufficient. No matter where you go, whatever you read the simple fact is that no two people will likely agree on the "definitions."
slave
submissive
switch
sadist
masochist
safe words
etc.
Each of these can have multiple meanings. However, by and large they speak to and for themselves. Good luck, it has been 50 years now that I have been doing these things and perhaps the best proof of what I say happened many years ago.

I met someone and asked if they were involved in BDSM. They said, "West Coast or East Coast?" I was intrigued and wanted to know what the difference was and was told:

bondage and discipline for both coasts is agreed upon. But SM? In the east it stands for sadist and masochist, on the west slave/master and as you can see the two are diametrically opposed, so good luck

use the search button here or even google them or go to one of the sites...steel door, submissiveloving, castlerehlm (however ya spell it)........so many ...google everything...even sub drop is there

When I wrote my first novel on BDSM for a former Dom I knew in 2000, I did so much research to get my facts straight. My mom stumbled across it and after she was done laughing, she told me ...yall are a sick bunch...LOL

It was fun doing the research. I learned alot of new meanings I only thought I knew. And learned some I didn't know. Still learning here on CM when I read the forums. And so I add them to my little personal dictionary as well.

Chiming in with a second on... if your unsure about the term they are using... just ask them...I say this because I'm one of those people who tends to have her own unique definition of various terms.

Google define: *insertword* - that is usually a good way to go. If that doesn;t come up with anything useful, then google the word plus BDSM or Fetish - and that may narrow the search.

Otherwise try Deviants Dictionary

If you are looking for acronyms however, that can be a little more difficult and so you can always ask on a forum(like here).

If its onsomeones profile, just ask. Most people are nice enough to let you know what it means, especially if its one of those 'gray area' words or terms. People on the boards are niec and the same people are behind the profiles, so just ask.

I will say that the Deviant's Dictionary is a gold mine though, well wrtten and easy to understand, of course, if you have a book like "Screw the Roses.. " their is a glossary in the back that helps a LOT.

BINGO. It shows you READ the profile and not just emailed willy nilly. If someone asked me about an abbreviation or the like I would be happy to tell them, it shows interest in hte context and content NOT just the pictures.

Deviant's Dictionary is good. Google the term, and if necessary, Google the term with the words "and sex" (no quotes in the search box, please). For terms listed in the "interests" on someone's profile, you can usually mouse over and get a Collarme-provided explanation. This is useful if you don't know what "watersports" means to kinky people, for example.

However, if someone is using words like "servant," or "submissive," or phrases like "pain slut," or "service top," you will want to ask that person exactly what that means to him or her, because there is quite a lot of variation in people's definitions there.
