Then you have the option not to fly on a commercial fight leaving from the US. It seems rather simple.

I sympathize with her plight but my owner and I travel for business several times a month for him and at least every 5 weeks for me. I have been detained with a cat in one arm and my 8 year old in the other...over stupid stuff. I'd rather the inconvenience and overzealousness of the TSA than the alternative.

The alternative to being treated like a Slave?

Me, I'll take Freedom and Liberty.

Do you BELIEVE in the KGB/DHS/TSA Security Theater?

Well, people believe in Tinker Bell, too.

Which is why *I* and the rest of your political masters only fly charter air these days.

Commercial air is for untermensch.

Every cop or mall security wanna be or look alike I have ever met is an incorrigible and self centered idiotic prick, so---- given.

The thing is, I guess, that we should all be considering, and thankful for, is that a huge national disaster was averted due to the fact that fuckin' morons are hired who can eye up a sippy cup right off, from some twenty odd paces that the fuckin' container is in excess of 3 fluid ounces.  It is of utmost national urgency that the liquid not be placed into the actual container prior to walking thru the metal detector, thereby negating its explosive effect.  How many pages in the manual on this?  Where is Osama Bin Laden?  How many boxcutters made it by while this Wagnerian Opera was in progress?  Has the profiler report come out from the FBI  that the next attack is likely coming from the SippyCup Liberation Organization or what?

What about these assholes that are jacking refregerator boxes in the overheads and calling it carry on?  Any chance they got powder in there?

WTF? Can't carry a cigarette lighter on board?  But you can matches and have a pack of smokes in your pocket?   Wanna know how to build a bomb????  Think about it------------likelihoods---  I flew all over prior to and a little after 9/11 and stupid is still stupid, it is panacea, not actual policework or security.

No.  In a "free country", you have the right to respect your fellow residents and they have the right to respect you.  So please keep your fluid to yourself, you filthy wanker.  We are tired of finding it in our shoes, hair and luggage.

You got that right, Aileen!  And no where is she reported as being hysterical,
upset yes, but most of us would be in that situation.

Why would you be upset the rules are posted everywhere? She had a sippy cup with more than 3 ounces of fluid in it, not in a qurt size plastic bag, she was in violation of the rules. God forbid there had been something in that cup and they let her through then you would all be screaming about how lax secuity is and how your neighbor got an uzi on a flight. If you want to fly on a commercial airliner in the US there are rules, don't like the rules, charter a plane or rent a car

There's a rumor that the 5th team of hijackers on 9/11 was to be led by a diminutive bomber who could easily pass for a 19 month old. Luckily he woke up that day with terrible pain due to teething and he, and the other members of his team, never left the nursery that morning. The TSA has been on alert for this tactic ever since.

One day, Stalin is giving a lecture to his fellow Soviets and while he was going over the business of the day, someone in audience sneezed.

Instantly, he looked up, a fierce frown on his face. "Who sneezed?"

No one answered. So Stalin turned to the KGB officer and said, "Okay, take everyone from the first row out and shoot them."

So the KGB does this. Then, he looks at the audience again and says, "Who sneezed?"

Again, no one answers. So Stalin orders the KGB to shoot everyone in the secnd row.

Finally, after this goes on a few more times, the sneezer gets so nervous he finally leaps up and shouts, sweat pouring down his face, "I sneezed, Comrade Stalin!" Stalin nods, looks at him and says, "You are the one who sneezed during my speech?"

The man says yes.

Stalin says, "God bless you. Let's continue with meeting."

Being detained long enough to miss a flight and threatened with arrest is over-kill.
All that needed to happen is for the sippy cup to be empited.

...the criticism is not over whether or not security called the woman on her sippy cup.....it's about how they treated her subsequently. Just because someone breaks a rule does not entitle those charged with policing such rules to treat them with disrespect. A certain amount of sensibleness is required.

Nah, you got to crack down on these fuckers, she would have lost all her frequent flyer bonus points for that segment, if I was head of TSA.

I agree and that is exactly what they do. There is something else that happened that made them not just empty the sippy cup out and hand it back to her.

......this something that happened...could it be that the TSA employees involved got out of the wrong side of the bed that morning? Or do you have some concrete knowledge you haven't shared yet?

It does not take much, philosophy.  I have experienced and
witnessed some real travesties of so called "security" at airports.

Anyone traveling with the elderly, disabled, children, pets, etc
has their hands full as it is and you add the people with the
badges and an head of of their "authority" and ....

That being said, although many SS agents have huge egos, she should have known better.....EVERY federal agent goes through a training course on the procedures for flying as a SS agent.

Yah, something about this story doesn't sound right to me.  She's a former secret service agent.  They're chosen for their ability to deal with pressure and confrontation, yet we're supposed to believe that she went from being a quiet, competent former agent to the stereotype of a hysterical woman?

Who knows what really went on, but I find it hard to believe that a person hard-nosed enough to get into the secret service wasn't strong enough to deal with being denied a sippy cup.

Something doesn't add up.

selfbnd411,
if you have ever been the parent of a toddler, you would know what the ramifications could be of being on a long flight with said toddler and no sippy cup/bottle/ whatever that they are capable of drinking out of.  Especially for take off and landing.. It's scarier than anything we have ever discussed on this site, I'll tell you that..

Remember when the TSA tried to make Joe Foss throw out his Medal of Honor on his way to giving a speech to a class at the United States Military Academy at West Point?

quote:

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR to

CAPTAIN JOSEPH J. FOSS
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVE

for service as set forth in the following CITATION:

For outstanding heroism and courage above and beyond the call of duty as Executive Officer of a Marine Fighting Squadron, at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. Engaging in almost daily combat with the enemy from October 9 to November 19, 1942, Captain Foss personally shot down twenty-three Japanese planes and damaged others so severely that their destruction was extremely probable. In addition, during this period, he successfully led a large number of escort missions, skillfully covering reconnaissance, bombing and photographic planes as well as surface craft. On January 15, 1943, he added three more enemy planes to his already brilliant successes for a record of aerial combat achievement unsurpassed in this war. Boldly searching out an approaching enemy force on January 25, Captain Foss led his eight F4F Marine planes and four Army P-38s into action and, undaunted by tremendously superior numbers, intercepted and struck with such force that four Japanese fighters were shot down and the bombers were turned back without releasing a single bomb. His remarkable flying skill, inspiring leadership and indomitable fighting spirit were distinctive factors in the defense of strategic American positions on Guadalcanal.

/S/ Franklin D. Roosevelt
