I generally try to avoid participating in the sniping that goes on in heated debates here. I'll jump in, state something that I try to keep on original message, maybe make a joke that insults no one, and then I'll bow out for awhile unless someone asks me something specifically or brings me up in the conversation for some reason. What I do find somewhat irritating is when someone comes along and challenges my knowledge about something when it's something I know well from experience. Or even worse, discounts my perspective on my own opinion, as if his or her opinion is superior to mine because it's different. What really gets me is when I'm challenged on information I know without a doubt to be true, like a political thread, when someone tells me I'm wrong but has zero justification to back that up. I so often want to say, "Look, I have a ph.d in this subject, so I kind of have a little bit of knowledge perspective that you probably don't" but I don't. I've gotten to the point where I don't even continue the conversation, leaving the moron to think his first level analysis is so much superior to second and third level analysis just because he can yell loudest on a message board. I do often take offense at the insulting that goes on for no reason other than to substantiate someone's desire to post and be seen posting. I probably take more offense at the fact that I'll spend a great deal of effort making a post, only to be completely ignored while the attention is paid to the ruffians who are only riling people up.
