Toddler in limbo over U.S. immigration
By MATTHEW BARAKAT
Associated Press Writer

Abdeloihab Boujrad talks during an interview Tuesday, June 12, 2007, in Herndon, Va. For more than two years Boujrad, a U.S. citizen, has fought unsuccessfully to bring his 3-year-old son Ahmedyassine home from Morocco to join him in Virginia. The toddler's name resembles the name of the founder of the militant Palestinian group and is causing delays leaving the child in immigration limbo.

HERNDON, Va. --It never occurred to Abdeloihab Boujrad that the U.S. government may be confusing his 3-year-old son with the former leader of an Islamic militant group. But that's exactly what a civil rights group believes is blocking Boujrad, a U.S. citizen, from bringing the toddler from Morocco to live with him and his wife, a legal permanent resident.Boujrad has fought unsuccessfully for more than two years to have his son join him, and the U.S. government has never explained why it has not taken action on his son's immigration application. The boy's first name, Ahmedyassine, resembles the name of Sheik Ahmed Yassin, the founder of the militant Palestinian group Hamas, who was assassinated by Israel in 2004.
Morris Days, a legal director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said many Muslims have faced unexplained delays and denials on immigration and citizenship applications since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Confusion over names is not uncommon. But the delays in processing the application for a toddler to join his parents are unfathomable unless one assumes that Ahmedyassine's name is tripping alarms, Days said.
"He's been advised that the case is currently undergoing administrative review," he said. "What kind of administrative review can they subject a baby to?"
Boujrad, 38, of Alexandria won an immigration lottery to come to the U.S. in 1997 and obtained citizenship in 2005. During that time, he traveled to Morocco a few months a year to be with his wife, Leila, to whom he has been married since 1999 and engaged since 1997 when he won the immigration lottery.
Leila did not get her green card until 2005, after her husband became a citizen. Ahmedyassine was born May 24, 2004. When Leila Boujrad's visa allowing her to travel to the United States was about to expire in 2005, she reluctantly decided to leave the boy with her sister while the immigration issues were sorted out.
"It was a bad experience. She was crying for three days straight and sick for weeks about leaving her son," Boujrad said.Boujrad said he did not even know who Sheik Ahmed Yassin was until a few weeks ago, when it was suggested to him that the name similarity might be causing the delays. He said the boy's name was a compromise between his father, who liked the name Ahmed, and himself, who preferred Yassine.
Even in the absence of any other explanation, Boujrad said he still can't comprehend the confusion."He cannot do anything. He can't hurt nobody," the soft-spoken Boujrad said. "He's doing good, but he's 3 years old now, and this is the time that they start learning everything and knowing everything. He's feeling like he's apart from us and it hurts him."
Boujrad's eyes welled up as he described the frequent phone calls and video Internet hookup he and his wife use to stay in contact with their boy. As he spoke he clutched a thick blue folder documenting his innumerable conversations with immigration bureaucrats.
Dan Kane, a spokesman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said Wednesday that the agency is looking into the matter.Boujrad cannot appeal to immigration court because no decision has been made, Days said. His only option would be to sue in federal court to compel action on his application. Days said that is a possibility but he's hoping to deal with it on an administrative level.Boujrad and his wife have considered returning to Morocco for good. But they hold out hope.
"Each day I open my mailbox, I think maybe today is the day that I will get my letter from immigration," he said. "But not yet."

Both parents have been here for sometime, neither seen or labeled as a threat, yet  they can't seem to find anyone who can cut through the bullshit and get their son into the states. Yes this lil boy is such a potential threat we can't reunite him with his parents. I know there is a back log when it comes to legal immigration but DAMN

mnottertail -> RE: Toddlers Are Now A Security Threat (6/19/2007 1:38:03 PM)

Well, that is more proof of the crack troops that are toiling away with all the insight in the invasion of america.  Of course a terroist is going to use his name, should be easy to pick out of a crowd.  Hope to fuck his name don't get to be Hanson or that is gonna wipe out a few million in the United States.

Um, I wonder if these guys are ever gonna get around to looking at a picture, maybe stare and compare....perhaps we can go to blues clues or where in the world is carmen sandiego sets and  see if we can't rustle them up a play detective finger printing set.

Apparently none of you have ever heard of The Toddliban and Al Kiddya - a testament to their mastery of image control and the ruthlessness of their methods. Their notorious "Napper Cells" have been infiltrating western wombs since well before 9/11. I say deport every prepubescent person on the continent then enact strict fallopian access laws. Safe sex doesn't just mean preventing AIDS and other STDs anymore.

seriously. and before some one suggests a name change i point out the 60 minutes episode with the 10 or so men who have trouble EACH AND EVERY time they try to fly because their name is the same as an alias used by a terrorist. Now you tell me where the brain power is in the goverment. a lil common sense would go a long way

Have any of you seen the videos made by Palestinian terrorists where they dress up kids as young as 2 years old in masks and outfits. They show 6 year olds how to hold a gun. One video even showed a toddler wearing a vest of explosives.

These terrorists are well known to use kids and women in their operations.

...good grief.....now you're suggesting that the kid in question really is a terrorist? Is there a cure for believing Faux News with such fervour?

mnottertail -> RE: Toddlers Are Now A Security Threat (6/19/2007 2:13:28 PM)

ja, the fuckin headdress would give them away.  masks and outfits, now that is a fuckin' concern. Six year old holding a gun you probably ain't going to make it past check in at the ticket counter before you get noticed, even by TSA and without a sippy cup.  They won't need your name for that little dust up, I am sure.

Vests of explosives usually gives the average two year old a bulky look, so eagle eyed TSA officials who can estimate sippy cup volumetrics using only a pair of eyes aughtta  be able to do some body fat cipherin without going to the magenta row on the old abacus.

WTF?

CrimsonMoan -> RE: Toddlers Are Now A Security Threat (6/19/2007 2:15:08 PM)

Cyber i wouldn't put anythign past these bastards HOWEVER the point of this story however is that this kid should be with his parents in the US. NOT hundreds of thousands of miles away.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Toddlers Are Now A Security Threat (6/19/2007 3:56:54 PM)

You mean like allowing a DEA agent to fly with his firearm but confiscating his toenail clippers?

yep, but then no one in OUR goverment would double cross us.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Toddlers Are Now A Security Threat (6/19/2007 4:40:50 PM)

Actually the beaurecratic arm just wants to follow the regs so they keep their jobs. It is the politicians that want to make sure people are reliant on the government so there are always a large amount of government jobs. Double cross would indicate an active alliance, which there is none. I just want government to follow the constitution and for servants of the people to be held accountable.

SO?

How do you prevent against that attack vector? Creating little "Green Zones" which require a patdown and search to enter around the Mall.

Aside from that? When G-d comes a calling, YOU WILL BE A-GOIN...

Living in a state of paranoia doesn't change either of those 2 facts. If YOU are armed and ready to defend against a Terrorist attack, is there ANYTHING ELSE which can be done to increase YOUR safety?

"Security Theater" It makes the stupid people feel better, and keeps all the TSA retards off Welfare and Voting Republican.

Aside from that? Nothing.

Why do you think us anti-child supporters of aborting and murdering small children dont want the Religious Right to prevent us from saving Democracy from Al Kiddya and the Toddliban?

Dont these people understand that the SNuke might be implanted in their daughter?
