OK, I'm just going to put this out there and let you all have at it.  It's funny, pathetic, ridiculous, and a little disturbing all at the same time.

Applebee's Serves Toddler a Margarita Oops. It was a bad day for the wait staff at an Applebee's restaurant in the San Francisco Bay area when one of them accidentally filled a 2-year-old's sippy cup with a margarita instead of apple juice.

The Associated Press reports that the child's mother, Kim Mayorga was confused when her son, Julian, started making funny faces and pushing away the apple juice she ordered for the child at Applebee's. When Mayorga opened the lid of the sippy cup, she instantly knew why: The distinct smell of tequila and Triple Sec. Several hours later, Julian got very drowsy and started vomiting. Mayorga rushed him to the emergency room. "I wasn't going to make a big deal about it," the mother told the Contra Costa Times, "but then he got sick."
The manager of that Applebee's contends the apple juice and margarita mix were stored in identical plastic bottles, and the server accidentally grabbed the wrong one. Randy Tei, vice president for Apple Bay East Inc., which owns the franchise restaurant and nine other Applebee's in the San Francisco Bay area, said the Mayorga family will be reimbursed for their medical bills. In addition the franchise group's restaurants will no longer serve apple juice and margaritas in similar containers. "We absolutely believe it was an honest mistake," Tei said. Julian is fine now. Mayorga said Applebee's has been very apologetic and offered the family free meals, but she told the Contra Costa Times, "If they think I'm going back there, they're ridiculous."

LOL honest mistake, very glad the kid didn't have worse problems and seems like a reasonable good reaction.

I'm fine with erasing the drinking age limit- but everyone needs to know their tolerance ;)

Legal limit only counts for driving and it's very unlikely that kid is going to be getting into the drivers seat.

I'd say a kid of four should probably drink maybe a thimble full.  Just enough to taste it in the egg nog ice cream.

Ah, but you forget pubic intoxication :-)  Not too mention the could in fact be driving around in one of those little electric Barbie Jeeps or Hummers.  Imagine the horror of witnessing your guinea pig killed by a drunk toddler on the playground.

wasn't it popular for generations for mothers to rub liquor (and at one period even cocaine was common) on baby's gums when they were teething or just to shut them up in general? hey i say as long as the kid can crawl a straight line, he's under the limit.

That would kind of piss me off, but after every thing was over with and my child was ok I'd let it drop with them paying any medical expenses.

Uh huh, and if the rat poison was in the same kind of container too, would they have given the same lame excuse?

I would have sued them. No excuse for such a mistake. I'm that kinda mom though, I don't allow stupidty when it comes to my child, you either know what the hell you are doing or you don't. Its kinda obvious if you are pouring apple juice or a margarita. That child could have been a LOT worse off. Its a blessing that he was ok.

New spin on contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

On a related note, my UMs pediatrician said that the absolute most effective teething remedy happens to be a finger wetted with whiskey or brandy and rubbed on their gums.

He was so totally correct in this regard.

Yeah, I remember my parents telling me they did that when I was a baby.  But we were in England so they could have poured a pint down my throat and no one would have given a second glance lol.

ROTFLMAO! Ya noticed that to eh? I lost some good coffee cause of that line. :P

Anywhoos! I'm with Slaverose...there's no excuse for stupidity. These people aught to be on their knees thanking this woman she ain't going further with it. I'da sued the hell out of them.

Whiskey and teething brats...what a combo. Sure works though. Whiskey is good for knocking out colds to. :)

Edited to correct spelling.

I'm not buying this just yet...margarita mix contains no alcohol, that is added to the mix when the drink is prepared.

It sounds fishy to me as well.   Margaritas are rarely pre-mixed with the alcohol, and somewhere like Applebee's would rarely give the servers ANY kind of access to the booze.

True about the margarita mix most likely being non-alcoholic.

It is a lot more amusing thinking they are trying to create the worlds youngest lush.

Can a pre-toddler who cannot walk join a 12-step program?
