AquaticSub -> RE: Medical Background (6/20/2007 9:33:30 PM)

I would consider it my business to be informed if they currently had a STI, mono, Tuberculosis , meningitis, or some other contagious and semi-serious to serious illness. I would like to know as quickly as possible if they had cancer or other serious but not catching disease so that I could decide if I was able to be a supportive and helpful partner to them.

Now, I won't sleep with a partner without a condom unless they give me a clean STI report. However, there is one thing you are wrong about - you can know for sure (or at least as sure as the tests are accurate). A patient can obtain a copy of their own STI tests (as with most, if not all medical records) and they can show those to whoever they like. It's their records after all. They can do whatever they like with them. And you can insist on no sex until you see the copy of the test.

These records will have the tests performed and the negative/positive results will be very clearly spelled out. If you are really want, you can probably even take them to the office and have them tell you that no, the document has not been forged. It's only the doctor and staff that aren't allowed to share them.

.just fyi--if they carry a blood donor card and have recently given, there is a good chance they are safe...that is no longer an option for me personally since I started loving tattoos...

No wonder HIV is on the increase in heterosexuals. That has got to be the least informed idea of safe, ive ever heard.
And PRECISELY why i dont trust peoples judgement.
I think putting that info on a site, is irresponsable. People read and believe. If you dont have a clue about safety, dont advise others. Keep schtum.

i treat everyone like they are positive, i can then manage risks accordingly, with responsible behaviour and informed choices.

Ive lost 3 good friends to HIV in 2003. None iv drug users, only one gay male, the other two, partners of adulterous parnters, who claimed monogamy. All 3 'trusted' someone in their history with their life, literally.

edited to add: a blood donor card, demonstrates the person has given blood. Not that the blood given was fit for use.

It's not just the wide variety of infections we have to worry about.  As stated above (somewhere) we need to be aware of heart conditions.  And what about things like diabetes - you don't want someone having a hypo while shackled to a cross (or even worse, when they have you shackled and helpless.)  Or epilepsy.  Or a bad back, and a tendency to get stuck if they bend over carelessly.  Or the tendency to faint at the sight of blood (bad in a sub, even worse in a Dom).

Of course by the time you've done the criminal history... the medical history... then declared hard limits and negotiated the scene.... kind of ruins the moment of wild excitement.

It only takes ONE person to give you something. And what is risky anyways? The amont of women and teenagers in america who are newly diagnosed with HIV is just rising, and most other STD's are on the rise. After HIV drugs got better and HIV is not considered as much of a deathsentence anymore (You can live with HIV for 20 years, practically symptomfree if yr lucky) people seem to not take it as seriously anymore. Its not just junkies and gay men who are risky anymore. Its anyone who has EVER had unprotected sex, no matter who they have had it with!

Maybe the jesuslovers are not as risky, but u have to marry them to get in their pants anyways,....

I didn't say YOU couldn't get copies of them... I said they're not public information .... like a background check in criminal... or credit checks (if you have their SSN). There is a difference.

And  Becca....... I agree with it would be nice to know things you described. When I am talking to peeps i'm about to play with... I warn them of a medical condition I have as well. Weak blood vessels in my head. When the excitement get to be too much... and the explosion accures... I've been known to curl up in a fetal position with one hell of a migrain..blood has been known to come from my nose and ears after this... if it was too much.  This started happening after my stroke.  So although I can play...and play hard... it still has to be monitored. That's why orgasm control is one thing that's not safe for me. And my partner is made well aware of it before hand.

So yes, besides STDS.... there are many other things people do need to know.

MHOO314 -> RE: Medical Background (6/21/2007 7:28:05 AM)

Well stated jess, I always wonder about viagra and orgasm control in males---I don't "play" with sexual activities---ok so we are at 3 hours and 56 minutes---what do I do, what do I do?????

Um, you took my statement out of context... did you not see that we were tested?

It really doesn't matter if it's public information or not. Getting it is as simple as saying "I'm not having sex with you until you show me an up-to-date STI report". Either they want to have sex with you enough to share it or they don't. Either you care about your health enough to do this or you don't. This is very different from criminal background where they can show you a rap sheet from a state or county they haven't committed any crimes in.

MaamJay -> RE: Medical Background (6/21/2007 7:46:28 PM)

Master and i both had tests done at 3 months apart and saw each other's results before we had unprotected sex and allowed fluid exchange to occur. That's just good sense, nothing to do with trust as W/we saw it ... before that, W/we used condoms ... and for much of that time W/we were apart waiting for the great migration across country to occur, so it wasn't as if W/we were draining the store of condoms! W/we'd also explored each other's general medical history and as W/we now attend Dr's visits together, W/we are both privy to anything else that now develops. W/we have also promised no unprotected sex with anyone else ... yes that's a matter of trust, but i now trust Him with my life and my money!

With a new sub, even for a "casual" play session, I begin with a medical inspection. I go over the body asking about the health and prior and current wellbeing of every part ... are they prone to headaches/migraines ... ever had neck pain or whiplash ... any broken bones ... any heart problems, high blood pressure ... etc. I find it very effective ... being naked and fondled tends to lead well into the scene ... and I get to find out any important medical information that may impact on My choice of bondage, position etc.

I'm so glad you seem to know if I care about my own health or not. And apparently you are not reading what i'm responding to either. The bottom line is this.... MEDICAL RECORDS ARE NOT PUBLIC INFORMATION!!!!!!..... and what you stated is correct.... you can obtain a copy of your own. BUT NOT SOMEONE ELSES.

There too much shit out there to worry about catching. You're better off not having sex at all... cause there's no protection from most of it... because if a condom isn't 100% a sure safe net from pregnancy... it's not a 100% sure safe net from STDs. And all because on the day I went for a updated STDs test... and the test came back STD free... doesn't mean one didn't take longer to show up and I have it now...and they're wanting proof I'm STD free so there can be unprotected sex.  I could of course say the same thing to them... all because you tested STD free this week.. doesn't mean something won't show up next week because it wasn't in your system well enough to  detected when the test was done.

So now if you're wanting to get down to nitty gritty of it all... let's get down to it. The only safe sex there is... is in the palm of your hand.. and that's not even safe if you didn't wash and santize before using either!

So no... it doesn't matter what is shown to you this week... that some one is STD free... because they very well may not be next week. It's the risk we all take...when we think we're being as safe as possible....  (Oh and think about that the next time you have to question yourself on IF you think your partner has been cheating or not)

Guilty1974 -> RE: Medical Background (6/22/2007 4:50:35 PM)

As I tend to like the more dangerous bondage stuff, I usually do discuss medical histories with play partners, and enquire at least about back/neck/spinal problems, diabetes, epilepsy, muscle injuries, and sometimes about heart conditions, panic attacks, and such things. Somewhat depending on what we're planning to do.

This  may sound a little unromantic but it is really a wise thing to do. I once fucked up pretty badly by tying a girl's hairbondage so as to force her face up for a pretty long time - turned out she had neck problems she hadn't mentioned. It gave her nothing more serious than one hell of a headache, but it's better not to take such risks.

As for the sex thing, my partner and I have unprotected sex with each other and use condoms and other fluid barriers when playing with other people (if playing includes sex).

Let's get one thing clear right now. You need to go back and read my posts. I never said they were public information. But getting it (or finding out someone may have something to hide) is as easy as saying and standing by "I am not having sex with you until you go have a STI report and I get to see the results".

Next point: I never said an STI report will prevent your partner from getting STIs in the future. Anyone who thinks an indication of past medical history is proof of future health has never lived or worked around medicine. The healthy stud you are dating now may be wasting away from cancer in five years. Sad but hard fact of life.

This is not, in the slightest, like a criminal background check. To get an accurate and complete criminal background check you have to check every county in every state. To get an accurate STI report, you just have to take them to Planned Parenthood and shell out about $150 bucks.

Now, I don't insist on all this. I just make them get tested and ask for the results, I don't demand the report. I take a considered gamble. If you are that worried, hold out for the test. It certainly wouldn't be unreasonable. And if you think your partner is cheating and you are worried about future STIs, one) why you are having sex with since there is *no* way to protect yourself from herpes  and two) don't waste the money on the STI report and, if you are going to have sex with them, use protection.

Oh... and by the way... you don't even have to have sex to get some STIs. I can't remember which but herpes or syphlis spread to an entire wrestling team by skin to skin contact. You can also get crabs from toliet seats and trying on clothes in stores. The only way to fully protect yourself is to never touch anyone, never use a public toliet and never try anything on. All of life is a calculated risk.
