I agree that they've been using sidetrack tactics to apprehend folks of "questionable ethics" or "immoral fibre" or whatever they want to call it for a long time, and a lot of that started back in the '20's, when the 'direct approach' to the heavier crimes (then known as the alcohol prohibition, and all the organized crime tom-foolery that came along with it) wasn't practical.

However, there is a difference between getting "The Mob" on charges of tax evasion and arresting these people on an (alleged) prostitution/solicitation charge. I mean, I'd be hoping they actually had some sort of evidence, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of that substantiating the validity of this arrest.

For one, the mob was indeed evading their taxes, and that is a federal criminal act... However, I don't see the same sort of correlation in this case. From the information given, (which sure doesn't amount to much) it's very hard to definitively pin-point a criminal act, or even, for that matter, a criminal intent. That was why it seems so absurd to me.

But I agree wholeheartedly that when "johnny law" wants to nail yer ass, they'll find whatever method they can to make it happen... And to make it stick... Even if it is finding valid charges that may or may not have anything to do with what they feel is "rightful justice for the greater crimes commited"... Whatever to get whoever they feel needs to be off the streets, actually off the streets.

And there's something admirable in those methods... Just not when applied to an over zealous couple looking for a good time with a neighbor they've admired. Or so one would believe anyway, or they wouldn't have approached her about it, I'd wager. That sort of flippant law-enforcement attitude is a threat to everything every kinkster stands for... Which is the freedom to express themselves the way they feel inclined to express themselves sexually... Or in their living methods... So long as no harm is done.

In anycase... Absurd.. That's all I can really say about it, if in fact, it's a factual case. I'm also with you on that, in that I don't want to go anywhere, that isn't precisely "kink aware & tolerant". I guess that's why, though Cali is a pain in the ass to live in sometimes, there are more often than not times I'm very happy to be living here. But even here, there are trouble spots, full of ignorance that isn't easily overcome.

Peace.

I do admit that it really bothers me when I see these cases where the cops come up dry with whatever their original search intent was, yet somehow they piece together some alternate flimsy way to get what they came for (the arrest).

Gasp.  Shock.  Horror.  Cops play fast and loose with the law, they're allegedly committed to uphold?

You don't say....

As funny as this is, its not funny.  I'm an attorney and know several people on sex offender registries for simply making a pass at a woman in a bar, or a female that flashed some bikers in a bar district late at night.

I live in Alabama, and yes, it is actually illegal to sell adult novelties, (repassed about 4 weeks ago and closed down what little toy stores we had, which is why I do internet shopping anyway) and I do believe anal sex (sodomy) and oral sex is still illegal on the books, although I do not know of anyone ever busted on those charges.  We have also had numerous threesomes(and would have given a few a copy of any dvd if made had they wanted it) at My house, and had a live in slave that actually worked as a dispatcher for the City Police Department here.  They wanted the people they arrested for something else, and tried a poor subsitute.  My big question would be...if the neighbor supposedly didnt take offense or get upset at the offer, how the hell did the officers know the offer had been made?  Something smells........

I agree, it's a growing concern of law enforcement violating our civil rights. I do not feel it is forced prostitution. It's not like being forced into alternative lifestyles, nor does it appear money was involved. Thus they need to read the definition of prostitution! I feel this is an opportunity for law enforcement to get a pat on the back. They need to worry about terrorism instead of alternative lifestyles!

Just to clear up, sodomy laws were ruled by the Supreme Court to be unconstitutional back in 2003. I find this important because I used to live in VA that still had "deviant sex between anyone is legal" laws on the books.

So if I had a threesome and they gave me the dvd after, does that make me a prostitue?!

It appears the monetary value of a homemade DVD in exchange for the 3some was how they arrived at the solicitation charge.
