I have been seeing this topic roll by all night, and I had no idea it was about what happened here in Austin, until I was just watching the news and they were saying how it has be mis-reported all over the world. It's been called a lynching, and one news cast in another country even showed a baseball bat....none of these things were used. The reason it was mis reported is because Austin police released false statements, (suprise suprise) without checking facts. Which resulted in that man not getting help in time. There was no lynching (not sure where that came from), and actually there was no big mob, just 4 assholes that beat the man to death when he went to help, his friend, the driver of the car that he was a passenger in, from being attacked. The attacked the driver because he accidentally hit a two year old child. The child is physically fine. They are still looking for the men. And it didn't have a thing to do with the celebration, or anything racial for that matter. The majority of the 911 calls came from black people. The 911 operator basically reported it as a mob, which meant that the paramedics could not get to the man because police had everything barricaded, blocks away, because they thought there was a major mob scene. Think they would've gotten a tad closer to actually see if it was a mob first....so if nothing else they could determine how many officers they would need...but oh well, what do I know... anywhooo, by the time they did go to the actual scene, and saw that there was no mob, the celebration was letting out and the paramedics had trouble getting through the crowd. of course these are the same 911 operators that allowed a business to burn, because they didn't want to believe an eyewitness report of smoke, because it was a bbq place...forget it was the middle of the night and there should've have been any smoke and if so, not that much..so they just blew the guy off...when the second call came in it was too late. The whole system here is screwed, what can I say....hopefully this new police chief, just installed today (lucky him) can make some changes. Not sure if anyone has said this already, but just wanted to clear things a bit

I most lynch mobs, the atrocities are usually carried by very few individuals with the majority of the mob looking on doing nothing. I am sure the political powers that be wanted no part in describing this incident as a lynching and clamped down had on the police to not report it as such. The irony of this attack and its apperent dismissial by the local community is wicked indeed.

Webster's defines Mob as a "movable crowd." I've been to card games with 12-16 guys and I certainly wouldn't consider that a "Mob." Maybe 25 to 50 people could be considered a mob but then I've been to cookouts with 50 people and I wouldn't call that a mob either. To my way of thinking a "mob" would require police crowd control so I think a "mob" would need to consist of a hundred or more people. I wonder how many people police depts would require to consider it a mob? Surely 4 drunk guys are not a mob.

Not sure if anyone has said this already, but just wanted to clear things a bit yep i mentioned something about law in austin way back on the first page LOL lets just say there is a certain group of people in austin that i will dub the good ole boys, that will indoctrinate the kid on the block. Status quo will be maintained :)

This is incorrect from what I have read, I would love to read the sources of your statements. My understanding of crimes committed under mob mentality guidelines is that one or a few individuals work the crowd into a frenzy who stand and cheer and wave their pitchforks while they egg on the ones doing the actual lynching. This does not qualify as "looking on and doing nothing." Sinergy

Part of the inherent danger for 1 or 2 people attacked by a mob is that their chance for escape is zero. The sheer number and weight of the other bodies is a living wall of flesh and blood and bone.

Ven, not true, if you explode one or two of them's heads with like a .45 cal you can scatter them in most cases. Firing into the mob works too! One bullet can go through 3 or 4 people.
