The safety of a collar around the neck is somewhat questionable...I have seen countless threads on this all over the place, and it generally falls into three main categories: 1: Using shocks above the waist is not safe 2: Using shocks above the waist is safe, I do it with my subs all the time 3: It's probably safe, but since we aren't heart doctors, you better check before you try it. Now, unless someone would care to show the long term study by a doctor that shows that repeated small shocks around a person's neck do not cause long term damage, I would definitely err on the side of caution and use shock training devices somewhere below the belt...say, around a leg, on the genitilia, in the anus as a plug... The thing is, it is far more safe to use it on any of those places, because of how important a person's neck is. As someone mentioned, the muscles for the windpipe are in it...do you really want to risk having them clench down and spasm? Breath play to a whole new level, you could say. Then there is the fact that several important nerves run through the neck and spinal cords from the brain down into the rest of the body...including the one that helps keep your heart beating normally. Nobody except an expert such as a doctor would know exactly what affect such shocks would have on distrupting that nerve, but they could certainly also tell you that heart rhythm problems can easily go unnoticed for a long time, so if a shock started to affect your heartbeat, you would never notice, allowing the problem to get worse with repeated exposure to the shocks. Dog shock collars are used on dogs because dogs are not humans, their neck is built differently. Their nerves are deeper in the body and more protected, and they have a layer of fur over this. Humans are not dogs, and are not comparable to any breed. Lastly, the chances of a company or dog owners being brought to court over the hazard of long term exposure to collar shocks, or having a pet die from them is a much more acceptable risk to these companies than having a human suffer similar fates. My advice is, find a way to use this somewhere besides the person's neck, and have fun past that. It's a small chance this could cause harm, but wouldn't you rather take next to zero chance over a small, but very possible one?
