I just recently read that they have learned how to turn marrow cells into embroyinc stem cells, I believe it was a us company doing work in Brazil, so much of this debate is just spillover from the abortion debate, not an honest debate on where we as a society and world should go with this new technology. Personally I am leery of this stuff because of 2 main reasons. One it is a slippery slope towards engineering and comercialization of "humans". Many horrible things will come along with the cures.( and I am watching a man be destroyed by Parkinsons, it is horrible)And secondly this (like all scientific solutions) will produce many unforseen problems. Everyone thought Internal Combustion engines were great also, then they reordered our society and are mucking up our atmosphere. Or "we can cure infections", and 3 generations later there are 11 billion and rising people on the planet. One of the most ironic things I see in life is that so many people who are absolutly Anti GMO food are hell bent to GM people ASAP. Remeber these modified cures will mutate, causing mostly problems, and they spread in unintended ways (see GMO food). We have no idea what the hell we are doing, and the work is being done mostly by "geniouses" who can do math at levels I can not comprehend but consider asthetics, literature and art to be irrelevant. One who understands a tree at the micro cellular level, but can't see a forest. If the miracle cure came from the killing of 8 year olds would anyone be in favor growing farms of them to harvest?
