BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Jane Hoeppner insisted on celebrating her husband's life his way -- in groundbreaking style. Terry Hoeppner, the Hoosiers' football coach the past two seasons, died Tuesday morning from complications of a brain tumor with his family at his side. He was 59. By midafternoon Hoeppner's wife, mother, sister and two of his children were sitting inside a tent outside the football stadium, kicking off Hoeppner's pet project -- a $55 million upgrade to the school's athletic facilities. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=AmRzIOuXwVJJRf02Kvlj9ZAcvrYF?slug=ap-obit-hoeppner&prov=ap&type=lgns Washington probably won't earn a BCS invitation this season, but the Huskies could play a major role in deciding which teams are still playing after New Year's Day. The Huskies' schedule includes defending Rose Bowl champion Southern California, Fiesta Bowl champion Boise State and BCS championship game loser Ohio State. Washington closes the regular season at Hawaii, a Western Athletic Conference team earning plenty of preseason BCS buzz. Add up Washington's challenging Pac-10 competition with a brutal non-conference slate and you have the nation's toughest schedule. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=AnMTffRp6WfRDs27Avk8sUkcvrYF?slug=rivals-133191&prov=rivals&type=lgns NEW YORK (AP) -- Jason Giambi will meet with George Mitchell, agreeing right before baseball commissioner Bud Selig's deadline Thursday to cooperate with the steroids investigator. Giambi, who for the first time publicly admitted he had a "personal history regarding steroids," will become the first active player known to speak with the former Senate majority leader. No date was set for their session http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AlPGK2Lr6GSs.1.a0mYCPkA5nYcB?slug=ap-giambi-steroids&prov=ap&type=lgns MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- As far as Minnesota Timberwolves basketball boss Kevin McHale is concerned, any trade talk involving Kevin Garnett so far has been just that -- talk. "Who knows what's going to happen?" McHale said Wednesday after the Wolves worked out college stars Jeff Green and Al Horford in preparation for next week's draft. "But we're not out there actively shopping Kevin Garnett around the NBA. I can tell you that much." http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Agl0Q5gsZn0a7ZOuR9Z2obW8vLYF?slug=ap-timberwolves-mchale&prov=ap&type=lgns NEW YORK (AP) -- Without a binding agreement between Nashville Predators owner Craig Leipold and Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie, talk of the team relocating to Canada is strictly premature. That was NHL commissioner Gary Bettman's stern message Wednesday after a meeting of the league's board of governors. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AhcrFwxa_zsZnkAMIIrliup7vLYF?slug=ap-boardofgovernors&prov=ap&type=lgns DENVER (AP) -- The New York Yankees couldn't wait to get back to Coors Field after scoring a record 41 times on their first trip to the Colorado Rockies' ballpark five years ago. This time, they couldn't get out of town fast enough. "I don't want to see them again, how's that?" manager Joe Torre said Thursday after the Rockies denied Roger Clemens his 350th win and completed a three-game sweep of the suddenly stumbling Yankees with a 4-3 victory. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=AnPYJ9ZmAIA51pRRk78mXjERvLYF?gid=270621127&prov=ap
