Well sorta...he says he doesn't have to obey one of Bush's own executive orders becuase he's "not really part of the Executive Branch!"

Cheney Defiant on Classified Material
Executive Order Ignored Since 2003
By Peter Baker
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, June 22, 2007; Page A01

Vice President Cheney's office has refused to comply with an executive order governing the handling of classified information for the past four years and recently tried to abolish the office that sought to enforce those rules, according to documents released by a congressional committee yesterday.

Since 2003, the vice president's staff has not cooperated with an office at the National Archives and Records Administration charged with making sure the executive branch protects classified information. Cheney aides have not filed reports on their possession of classified data and at one point blocked an inspection of their office. After the Archives office pressed the matter, the documents say, Cheney's staff this year proposed eliminating it.

The dispute centers on a relatively obscure process but underscores a wider struggle waged in the past 6 1/2 years over Cheney's penchant for secrecy. Since becoming vice president, he has fought attempts to peer into the inner workings of his office, shielding an array of information such as the names of industry executives who advised his energy task force, costs and other details about his travel, and Secret Service logs showing who visits his office or official residence.

The aggressive efforts to protect the operations of his staff have usually pitted Cheney against lawmakers, interest groups or media organizations, sometimes going all the way to the Supreme Court. But the fight about classified information regulation indicates that the vice president has resisted oversight even by other parts of the Bush administration. Cheney's office argued that it is exempt from the rules in this case because it is not strictly an executive branch agency.

"He's saying he's above the law," said Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which released a series of correspondence yesterday outlining the situation. "It just seems to me this is arrogant and shows bad judgment."

Cheney's office declined to discuss what it called internal matters. "We are confident that we are conducting the office properly under the law," said spokeswoman Megan McGinn.

The Justice Department confirmed yesterday that it is looking into the issue. "This matter is currently under review in the department," said spokesman Erik Ablin, who declined to elaborate.

Yeah, two words in response.

Scooter Libby.

With pretzel logic like that, Cheny can only be one of the regular posters here at CM...I wonder which one? [:D]

Jon Stewart has Cheney down cold. Think "Burgess Merideth's Penguin".

Now, with that in mind, WHOSE posts sound "right" coming from The Penguin?

EHWwww?

If Cheney wants to assert that his office is not an “entity within the executive branch,” that means he’s not entitled to executive privilege, right? I want those energy task force minutes!!

Excuse me; but why did you entitle this forum, VP Cheney resigns....he didn't. Oh, I know, it's just to stir interest in postings.

Look, he's the VP, and if the VP does it, then it's not illegal;......er wait; was it; if the pesident does it, then it's not illegal; I dunno. But, this is a matter of national security, and no one needs to know ; whatever. He can cut his deals, and who should know, you, or I, or some media hacks who will expose it all....fat chance of that happening with the media we have.

I mean, we are not going to have another Spiro Agnew; episode. ....Anyone?

He'll be gone anyhow in a few months, so who cares. It'll all be new again, and if the Dems get the throne, then it'll be them Dems to blame for all the past Bush years. If Hillary makes history, then it'll be up to her to fix everything, after all, it'll be all her fault we are into and beyond the trillions of dollars into dept, so deep that they even stopped reporting the costs of this Iraq thingie, and then wait, Iran will explode; lookout Taxes......and, you can blame her (or whatever Dem gains the throne); I can just imagine the republican fascists on CM having a field day; the forums will be all aglow with the bashings, WOW, we are in for one hell of a ride, as Fargle puts it.

The Bush regime has been above all laws, national and international; they are immune from the consequences of any law whatsoever. Don't you get it...this is a dictatorship.

It is the wise puppet master who gives his subjects the illusion of free will.

Well, he's an ALLEGED CRIMINAL, so any Real Conservative worth the name Conservative, and who supports the Real Conservative Ideals of Truth, Justice and The American Way would demand a Grand Jury hear the presentation of a United States Attorney on the alleged charges, 18 USC 371, to name just a single example.

Of course, all the US Attorneys who *might* have had the integrity and honor have all been replaced with politically and religiously acceptable Party Loyalists, so that's not going to really be an issue for Cheney, is it?

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: VP Cheney Resigns from the White House!!! (6/22/2007 9:32:11 AM)

cheney is the one that pushed bush over the edge in the mideast war and hes the worse thing that has happen to the government in years,He continues to thumb his nose and suffering no conquences...bounty

farglebargle -> RE: VP Cheney Resigns from the White House!!! (6/22/2007 9:33:56 AM)

If The President doesn't have the BACKBONE to tell his VP to STFU and LETS HIMSELF GET PUSHED AROUND, what does that say about his ability to lead?

Yup.

You will know him by his works.

dragone -> RE: VP Cheney Resigns from the White House!!! (6/22/2007 12:20:04 PM)

Ya' know Fargle; I think it's all a set up; the president orders cheney; cheney refuses, then it's brought to a debate, a lot of noise is heard, PUT IT TO A VOTE, does he, or doesen't he..... cheney wins, secrecy is perserved, ...no one needs to turn over anything to any civil court, judge, anyone;... the pres and cheney go and have a beer together to celebrate their victory...in fact, they have a couple of beers together, maybe a JD chaser or two, maybe some more brew, light up a joint or two, more Jack, hell......this can go on all night; ya think.

Because he's claiming that he's not part of the Executive Branch and is not obligated to obey Bush's Executive Orders.  I think for the past 200+ years the Vice Presidency has been considered to be part of the Executive Branch, but I suppose if he's saying his office is not part of the Executive Branch, then he has no business having offices at the White House or the Executive Offices.  No need for him to have a Secret Service escort or access to Air Force Two either.

Hi There.

dragone -> RE: VP Cheney Resigns from the White House!!! (6/22/2007 5:45:48 PM)

Yes, I know why you did it; I was just wisecrakin', being snide. You are right, what can anyone say.....from all of  US history the VP has always been part of the Exec. Branch......until now.

Bush does not want anyone to know what the government is doing, absolute secrecy, is the rule. It was the same with Nazi Germany, Hitler gaves orders for his executive officers not to write things down, but give orders verbally...yet they were the most meticulous record keepers of all time....except for US now. The media was controlled in Nazi Germany, people believe Hitler shut down ALL opposing news outlets, no, he didn't. What the nazis did was to control the news, nazi officials were placed in newspapers, of very large circulations, directed and edited what is to be printed, and with any opposing paper, of a sizable circulation he shut down, passed laws to take over those papers if they didn't conform, the others with a handful circulation he let be...then it could be said...Germany has a free press; see here, this paper opposes me...of course the reader circulation was ...like, 12 people.

So, what it appears to me, is as I explained to Fargle in a pervious post. It's a ruise, to make screcy the rule. Cheney wins, and what happens is...If the VP is not liable to tell all, how much more important that the pres not tell all, nor reveal to any court judge or law, which is ruled he must turn over certain supeoned  files.

He is again, above any law, and rules without accountability to anyone. But, the challenge was given, and the gauntlet has been thrown down...ah, gee, we lost.

Fargle mentioned in one of his posts, that the Pres hasn't got the balls to demand Cheney to to obey. Bush doesn't want Cheney to do anything but defie him, and win.

That simple.

I was not joking.....and you are correct: These shills ARE from the Nixon/ Ford era, when the executive branch had more dictatorial power--- And they want it back.
