A horror movie come to life Three Fircrest families receive death threats via cell phone.
Even when the phones are off.
Even when they get new phones.

If you're in the phone SWITCH, there's not a lot they can prevent you from doing.

Would anyone who has hacked in like that waste their capital dicking around like this?

I dunno.... People are pretty fucking dumb.

That aside. Carry a firearm all the time, and ignore the assholes. Someone tries to jump you, shoot them dead. End of problem.

That depends alot on the state you're in. In Kansas, self defense is pretty much illegal. There was a case of someone getting shot climbing in a window and he sued the guy he was trying to rob and won. If someone starts a fight with someone in Kansas and the person attacked fights back in self defense, both people will go to jail. I recommend a tazer for protection rather than a gun. It disables the attacker long enough for the victim to get away.

In that case, get an expandable baton instead. They're cheap enough, for the price of a tazer, you can get a bunch of them.

Nothing freaks stressed out people more than that swing of the arm downward, releasing the coiled steel baton.

Unless you're SURE you can run away, pick your ground for the fight, and to me, that's as soon as possible, moving forward all the time, forcing them onto unsure ground.

And if you're going to shoot AT someone, make sure you kill them. Once the decision to pull the trigger is made, it's no time for 1/2 measures.

Now that I definitely agree with. While some may cower if a gun is pointed at them, others will rip the gun out of the victim's hands and use it on them. Never pull a gun on someone unless you intend to use it.

Pretty much. There aren't a whole lotta options once a gun is drawn.

This does not, however, discount what I believe to be the deterrent effect of simply going armed.

If the "Bad Guys" know that a SIGNIFICANT proportion of The People are carrying firearms, they won't know WHO the vulnerable ones, and will confine themselves to non-confrontational crimes.

There's Goats and Sheep. We need us some more Goats.

i think this is a mistake from the reporter, they couldn't have said that they still received calls after taking out the batteries,  this is just surreal, and absolutely NOT possible, i think they reported this just for that "horror movie comes reality" title.

compliments to the technically gifted kid anyway, but i would search among the sons (or grandsons) of some telco employee living in their neighbourhood, or use some kind of equipment to reveal intruders in mobile networks (i'm pretty sure they do exist somwhere), i do not think the supposed victims invented the whole story, take a look at their eyes, they seem definetely worried.

I'm going to make a slightly different suggestion: Win 94 ( or Puma, etc. ) Lever Action, Scoped, Sling in a .357/.38 in the 16" Trapper length.

Then, if you're in a state with Liberal Gun Laws, you can back it up with a S&W ( or whatever ) revolver in the same caliber.

.38 is cheap, and isn't going to give anyone a flinch on the range, and the .357 is a guaranteed win when it counts. ( Which is highly mitigated by the carbine, btw.... )

ps: look at the girl, she's the one stalked and she looks extremely worried, and she's pretty, i won't rule out at all the possibility that she's indeed stakled by someone, like the police did.

That depends alot on the state you're in. In Kansas, self defense is pretty much illegal.

Nonsense.  From the Kansas legislature website:

21-3211.   Use of force in defense of a person; no duty to retreat. (a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent it appears to such person and such person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to defend such person or a third person against such other's imminent use of unlawful force.
     (b)   A person is justified in the use of deadly force under circumstances described in subsection (a) if such person reasonably believes deadly force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to such person or a third person.
    (c)   Nothing in this section shall require a person to retreat if such person is using force to protect such person or a third person.

That's far from illegal.

Shooting a burglar coming in your window is not "self defense."  It's very likely going to get you charged with assault with a deadly weapon if there aren't extenuating circumstances.

21-3212.   Use of force in defense of dwelling; no duty to retreat. (a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that it appears to such person and such person reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent or terminate such other's unlawful entry into or attack upon such person's dwelling or occupied vehicle.
      (b)   A person is justified in the use of deadly force to prevent or terminate unlawful entry into or attack upon any dwelling or occupied vehicle if such person reasonably believes deadly force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to such person or another.
      (c)   Nothing in this section shall require a person to retreat if such person is using force to protect such person's dwelling or occupied vehicle.

The standard burden of proof the courts use to determine if the use of deadly force was justified is whether a reasonable person in that situation would feel that there was the imminent danger of death or bodily injury.  Simply finding someone coming in a window fails to meet that burden unless they're carrying a weapon at the time and are telling you that you're dead as soon as they get in.

I'll eschew commenting on the advice given by the Chairborne Rangers.

Yep, you'll get nothing with no batteries. Sounds like someone's cloned Courtney's phone, and simply added that twist to a "typical" stalker motif.  Folks in NYC used to get hacked a lot by folks sitting by the expressways with call analyzers.  They'd get the ID of the phone and clone it, then run up heinouse charges.

Now if she's prone to using Bluetooth, that can be hacked, too.  But you'll have to be pretty close.
