JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia - Three members of Saudi Arabia's religious police will stand trial this week for their involvement in the death of a man in their custody, an unprecedented action against the powerful enforcers of the country's strict moral code.

The death, the second in the custody of the religious police in the past month, has triggered calls for a reevaluation of the force's role and responsibilities, and generated a media uproar -- a first in a country where criticism of the religious establishment had until recently been off-limits.

....interesting story....especially in the context of China's recent prosecution of food standards staff and those engaged in slavery.
i wonder.....are we beginning to see a trend in countries with poor human rights records beginning to shape up?

Proper Islamic punishment must be handed out.

In other words, hang a few women; bound to be their fault somewhere along the line.

I hope so! I have to imagine it would be a terribly slow process, though.

I have my suspicions about the Saudi affair, guy who died had money or was related to/knew someone with power, but I've kept an eye on chinese "justice" for quite some time and am quite willing to bet that the people China is prosecuting and/or punishing aren't those really responsible. The Chinese government has a well established track record of using scapegoats anytime the Chinese public or international community gets too upset about some misbehavior of the government or PA. In a month or two the same people will be doing the same things.
