Nine thrill rides around the country were shut down Friday after a 13-year-old girl's feet were severed off at an amusement park in Louisville, Ky....Would this affect your decision to ride amusement rides?? I have always been a big fan of amusement parks and thankfully, never had a problem-- even bungee jumped twice...I think this was a very tragic incident but would not change my going to the parks and having a good time..

I'm not a big fan of amusement park rides to begin with, that would most certainly make me rethink about letting my son go on one or going on one myself. {shutters}

My theory is that there are many more car accidents than amusement park accidents and I wouldn't prevent my children from riding in cars...alot of accidents around prom / graduation time especially but you can't shelter them forever...As a matter of fact, I am taking my boys to the beach tomorrow and the weatherman says great weather, he better not be lying.[:)]

bring on the roller coasters!  i love the dangerous thirlls of all the rides and so does my oldest UM - her 8th grade class spent a day at Six Flags Great America and though, she's not suppose to ride on them (because her brain injury), i took all responsibility of her health in case something should happen to her while on the rides.

That's an unimaginable tragedy, but such a freak thing to happen.....I doubt it would affect my decisions to go to amusement parks any.  In fact, usually tragedies like this subject the rides to even more thorough inspections, so they'll probably be safer than they would have been anyway.

It's like never flying again because a plane crashed.

BTW, Great Adventure in NJ is like a kiddy park compared to Cedar Point in Ohio [;)]

I had a blast at Magic Mountain in Cali years ago and I want to go to Ohio and see what it's like there...

Yeah, you hear about these accidents from time to time, but then you have to ask yourself how many millions of people must have visited amusement parks in this country since the last time you heard about an accident.  That'll give you some idea of the odds.

I fly to third-world countries now and then, and sometimes I even get jittery about it, but I settle down by doing the same kind of calculation in my head.  There are dozens of flights to any destination every day.

Those parking lot carnivals got some real ancient rides, and crack heads assembling and running them to boot.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Six Flags Great Adventure..yes or no? (6/23/2007 12:48:08 AM)

You're not kidding!  I went to one where the girl in the little ticket booth was completely out cold.  My guess at the time was crystal meth, but I'm not up to date on the brain-putrefying shit.

My cousin worked at a traveling parking lot carnival and him and the rest of the crew were crack heads. They all slept in a small trailor on shelves packed in like sardines lol.

MadameDahlia -> RE: Six Flags Great Adventure..yes or no? (6/23/2007 2:26:25 AM)

Doesn't affect my desire to go to a theme park in the slightest. As others have pointed out, and as I made mention to in another thread, there's a chance... yes. But a slim one. I think I'd sooner get hit by a car crossing the street at a crosswalk than having my bits and pieces parted from my body while riding a coaster.

JerseyKrissi72 -> RE: Six Flags Great Adventure..yes or no? (6/23/2007 2:52:22 AM)

Yeah, I always think I have a better chance of getting hit by a Mexican back in my town than getting killed at an amusement ride...the way people drive makes you feel lucky to even have all your limbs.[&:]

windchymes -> RE: Six Flags Great Adventure..yes or no? (6/23/2007 4:56:06 AM)

I totally agree about the travelling carnival rides, those make me hesitate big time, since they're built and torn down again and again by questionable-looking characters.  At least the big amusement parks are permanently in place and inspected by well-trained and well-paid grounds crews every single day.

ManInTheBox -> RE: Six Flags Great Adventure..yes or no? (6/23/2007 9:21:36 AM)

Not really at all. I'm a huge fan of thrill rides and like you said...people get into and see car crashes everyday and that doesn't stop people from driving or getting into them
