Perhaps I miss something here, but as I read it perhaps the OP is aaking not onluy what makes them special but what the difference is between sub and slave?
For me a slave is someone who gives up their will and accepts that of the Master. A person who likes and needs control and order in their lives. Someone who, at least for me, is a heavy duty masochist and will find pleasure in serving even if it is humiliating and degrading.
A sub, as I see it, is a player and one who remains in control of the relationship setting limits, etc.
Now having said that if you identify as a slave and you have a Master who considers you a slave then of course you ARE a slave. Each of us has their own definitions.
For me what makes them special is that they need what we do...after that first thing, one must look deeply (sometimes not so deeply) for it is my experience that each and every person set upon the earth has been given something exceptional. Sometimes it is a smile, other times a mind, a sense of humor, or legs that don't stop or perhaps a mind that is as perverse as mine.. one need only look and they will find that special thing within each and every one of us
