i was talking to someone who thought their state was the worst for finding someone or  too prudish for an open Poly relationship.  Got me woundering how you wouldrank your area and how where do you think  you could be as open as possiable in this lifestyle?

California is an oddity. We have absolutely some of the most open BDSM communities in the country. We have public clubs in San Francisco, LA and Orange County. Other areas tend to be somewhat prudish. San Diego for all of it's "surfer laid back-ness" actually is somewhat prudish even considering the large gay community and some BDSM community.

California also has some of the most sweeping "sex offender" laws. California's Meghan's Law lists: "Oral sex, not forced or with a minor", "Sodomy, not forced or with a minor", "Public nudity" and "Assisting in public nudity".  Any of these items can get you on the Sex Offenders list for life.

It's quite the dichotomy.

yeah..that is a little  strange I guess..But I will say California is one state the rest of America looks at in amazement or envy ...not sure which  one wins out lol

I've been to a club in Seattle, although their rules were well spelled out, they were also fairly generous.  they even had beds and linens available for having sex.  I don't have a whole lot of club experience so I don't have a lot to compare to.

i  am in south Georgia  ~ where hogtie really does involve a  pig.

I'm in Georgia and from the events I've been to Atlanta I would say we have a fairly good population of BDSM activity going on.

So let me ask this then....what about  those out here that live away from urban areas? I know a few  who complain so much that they live inPA which if you live in Pittsburg  or Philadelphia ( even 2 hours awy ) you have a lot of groups and events to  learn from and explore your interest. But say you live 5 hours away from those cities and its pretty slim pickings  and  you find that too many small time mind sets can make it hard to  be public..
I wounder if living in large states , it can be more challenging  if you live a distance from an urban area??

if you are a sub and you have a choice between moving to Kansas and killing yourself, ... take the latter. if You are a Dom and You are thinking about moving to Kansas i live in hutchinson....

i think Kansas must be in the bottom 5, if not the worst state.

Sometimes here in Alabama we can get away with hogtieing a cute sub  but here too it often requires a pig.  Sometimes  it can involve a calf,  but lots of people call that calfroping.

Well Texas is a big place and I can only speak for myself....I hear Dallas has a huge community but it's an hour and a half drive and I just rarely have the time...out here in the boondocks, the community is nil-to-none.

BDSM is illegal in the state of West Virginia, or so I am led to believe. There is, however, a thriving community in the WV, OH, KY area. I can think of  about 5 in easy driving distance, and am a member of two.

Vermont's bust. Outside of Burlington, our sole "cosmopolitan" city, there is little to nothing in the way of a BDSM community.

I have heard for years of a club in Nashville but never been able to find it when i was there, nor find it on the internet, but i hear and see people talking about it all the time.
As for knoxville, there is the Smoky Mountain Power Exchange which has had one single meeting this year, and their website seems to not be mantained.

So I would say that Knoxville is pretty much bust as well.

There's activity in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio that I know of.  I hear that Dallas/Ft Worth has some groups as well.

technically isn't bdsm illegal everywhere because you "cannot consent to assult"?

texas is alright...theres a lot of empty space between the communities but when it takes a whole day to get out of texas in a car what do you expect?
i am satisfied with San Antonio's community, which for those of you who don't know is totally different from Austin, DFW and Houston's local scene....and ocassionally i get to go up to Austin to play in the sandbox up there...where the city's motto is "Keep Austin Weird"...the whole thing about texas scene's that i have noticed is you have to be willing to play the popularity game and accept the consequences should you "foul out"...

PS...on the Kansas issue i vote for killing yourself too...though i did hear once that if you only have 6 months to live, move to Kansas and it will seem like 6 years...something about a state where they've never seen a dog bigger than Toto...(long story short, they thought my friend's 100lb service dog was like some kind of monster and threatened to put my friend in jail for having her service dog in public....)

There are quite a few clubs in Wisconsin, the BDSM community is thriving here.
