I love it!!  Thank you Stella for all your hard work there!

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Using Latin in profiles and on boards (6/25/2007 8:40:12 PM)

Stella, you have too much time. Why in the world would you want to go to that extreme? I can possibly see an occasional Latin reference, but many? Why?

If you are thinking an international type language thing, why not English? CM seems to be mainly an English board that the commerce, academic and entertainment communities follow.

Thanks for that list, I have about 5 or 6 Latin dictionaries on my comp already, no lifestyle on though, I will add those my my phrase book for later. Thanks.

Stella!

Only Doms should be posting things like this.

Quod licet Jovi non licet bovi

becca333 -> RE: Using Latin in profiles and on boards (6/26/2007 5:03:36 AM)

Purely brilliant.

And you have WAY too much time on your hands.

LadyEllen -> RE: Using Latin in profiles and on boards (6/26/2007 5:12:33 AM)

The level of scholarship - very impressive!

And for anyone who didnt get it, you clearly need to brush up on your Latin.

I love it, though don't be suprised if you get email like: "gee you don't look latino"

Eldritchdancer -> RE: Using Latin in profiles and on boards (6/26/2007 9:51:06 AM)

Having a phrase from a foreign language in your profile usually makes a person pick up a dictionary, even if it is online. I can't see that as a bad thing. But my geek level includes having read the Unabridged Dictionary most libraries carry. The one you could kill a person with. [:D]

Aswad -> RE: Using Latin in profiles and on boards (6/26/2007 10:20:02 AM)

To the OP...

Actually, the medical community uses latin pretty much for the exclusive reason that it avoids semantic drift, something that IMO plagues the BDSM community (or at least those of us in it who attempt concise communication).

Quite a funny "compilation", though. [:D]

Err... those terms do not mean what she said... it was an elaborate joke, and well done at that.

Look some of them up if you don't know them from before.

The misrepresented meanings are hilarious.

In fact, if you post things like "لكني نظرتم.", people will have to use an online dictionary, if they don't already know the language in question, as they can copy-paste into the online version, but will have no idea how the alphabet in question is collated in a paper dictionary.

I sometimes post hieroglyphics, though I'm nice enough to provide the translation [;)]

I'll admit, the humor is great, but not as much fun as the folks who either didn't read the list or who didn't catch the various jokes scattered throughout. Very cute.

Hello stella40. Great fun but...Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur methinks! RL

dcnovice -> RE: Using Latin in profiles and on boards (6/26/2007 4:24:57 PM)

In college a dorm floor of young men with a strong sense of their prowess regarding women wore T-shirts saying, "Vidi. Vici. Veni."
