Curious.

My personal (and my personal only) definitions are:

Bottom: someone who generally likes to be on the bottom during sex, maybe held down. Basically not choosing the positions or feelings.

Submissive: Someone who is submissive bedroom only. They do the full on BDSM scene, but it does not extend to the rest of the relationship.

Slave: When the power exchange is in the rest of the relationship and continued 24/7.

It always is.

I personally believe a submissive is someone who chooses when he or she will submit, and what they are and arent willing to submit to. I believe a slave is someone who submits at least to her Master 24/7 wheather in a 24/7 relationship or not. A slave does not choose when they'll submit or to what degree they'll submit. I believe its more of a TPE relationship. I also believe that to a sbmissive this lifestyle is secondary where to a slave it is there life and everything else comes second.
These are of course just my opions and I hope I dont offend anyone with them

Masternslave07 -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 12:00:40 AM)

i am a 24/7 slave to my Master.  i have no say.  my purpose only is to please and serve my Master.  Whatever He wants or needs, i obey without question.  i am fortunate that Master loves me dearly, and has my best interest in mind always, also.  i trust Him completely.  i could never be a slave to someone i could not trust to do me no harm.  Master may hurt me, but never harm me.  i obey whether i feel like it or not.  i have given up all rights to my Master.  If i was a submissive, i would have a say.  As a slave, i do not.

loverly -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 12:06:55 AM)

i agree with slaveofKaos and her opinions/thoughts on a sub vs slave. and as for a bottom.. she is one who craves pain or the taking of pain and bottoms in the realm of BDSM....

OhToFly -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 12:16:45 AM)

I would have to agree as well. That seems like a fair definition.

WhiplashSmile -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 3:03:40 AM)

In my book!  A slave is 24/7 TPE (damn close to it)... while submissive is a partial power exchange.   However, some people still like to be treated with a TPE slave when they are done with a long day at work...

maledave7 -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 4:11:56 AM)

I think the different is that a slave has no say in anything. They are order to do things. They cannot ask questions. I feel that a sub can express an opinion about things. That a sub can have limits on the things that they can do. I feel that I am a sub. I am still searching for the right Domme. I would love to be able to tell her my thoughts and feelings about different things. I do feel that as we develop the relationship that we would get to know each other very well. I feel that, as I would put more trust in her that I probably would become more of a slave to her than a sub.

Both terms mean whatever is negotiated between the person(s) submitting and the person(s) who is accorded power.

Very true. If you identify as a slave, then regardless of what I or anyone else things you are just that a slave.

HOWEVER, having said that perhaps the next question is what is a Master or a Dom? Now we have four variables and so many different kinds and types of things or 4 to the fourth power.

If you think, as many do here, that a slave is tpe 24/7 then the Master must also be that 24/7 and does that not in some ways make him the slave to the slave? Just trying to provoke a little thought here.

I couldn't agree more.   I refer to myself as Mistress' slave.  We have a complete understanding of who we are to each other.   How anyone else would define our relationship is irrelevant.

Rover -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 6:01:36 AM)

Gawwwwdddd, I dread wading into this morass yet again.  Yet here I am.  :)

Personally, I have never (ever) heard or read of a definition of "slave" and "submissive" that makes a clear and constant distinction between the two, and does not cross into the realm of fantasy.

I'm not picking on anyone individually, but using the following posted definitions as an example because it includes several common (though not universal) themes related to this topic:

I personally believe a submissive is someone who chooses when he or she will submit, and what they are and arent willing to submit to. I believe a slave is someone who submits at least to her Master 24/7 wheather in a 24/7 relationship or not. A slave does not choose when they'll submit or to what degree they'll submit. To begin, a submissive in a TPE relationship submits 24/7 as well.  I'm not aware of anything more total that "Total" (as in "Total Power Exchange").  Thus negating one distinction mentioned.

As for the other, making choices, I ask the following questions.  Is there nothing, and I mean NOTHING, that a slave will not do for their Master/Mistress?  Do they have no limits at all, even including the obvious illegalities, dismemberment, death, etc.  Do they not have the choice to leave a relationship that they find ungratifying, unfulfilling or even abusive?

If your answer to those questions is "no", then you are making a clear and constant distinction between slave and submissive.  And in turn, I would suggest that you are expressing pure fantasy (or theory, if you prefer) that is not (ever) evidenced in reality except by those who exhibit a (clinical) mental health disorder.

Bladedom has expressed the only definition of the two terms that stands the test of sensibility, logic, and reality (and yet it does not distinguish between the two terms).

MrrPete -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 6:13:30 AM)

The age old question of a budding Dominant. Answered SO many times in these forums

Bottom - submissive - salve are terms often used interchangably

I think Bladedom said it best. What ever you negotiate or declare is what you are.

As long as the Domiant and submissive are on the same page it will work

For me personally I'm looking for an obedient woman OR a woman willing to learn to be obedient to me. It takes a conscientious descision to be obedient at first. In time that descision becomes automatic and takes no thinking for most situations.
My obedient woman would have charcteristics from botom to slave to kajira. She would have limits because I have limits. I Want a woman who doesn't say "no" ever but has learned how to express herself negatively in a positive manner. [ask me off list]. She will learn to trust me at all times through obedience and discipline. Discipline may or may not invovle physical punishment. Usually not.

It's like asking what's the difference between a one dollar bill and three quarters in change.

mnottertail -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 6:55:03 AM)

spelling, mostly.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Whats the difference between a slave and a sub? (6/27/2007 7:09:06 AM)

*sighs*  where's LA and her "easy" button with links?

the difference between slave and submissive is how YOU (not everyone) and yours define your natural self.
