lovodom -> How safe is the cm site? (6/29/2007 12:38:01 PM)

Hello,

I have recently been contacted by a self-proclaimed "painslut" who wants to be a sub but poses as a dominatrix on her account. She refuses to send me her picture, claiming that this web site is too unsafe to send pictures.

Has anyone else here made experiences which have led them to believe that it is unsafe to send pictures with your mail replies? Your advice and help are much appreciated, since I am fairly new here.

Speaking just for myself, I do have noticed that people CAN apparently somehow see my full profile without being seen by me. I think this may be due to them having multiple accounts. Or is there something I may have overlooked?

Again, thanks for your help.

Lovodom

I doubt she means there's anything specific about this website that makes it  unsafe to send pictures.  I'd guess she thinks it's generally unsafe for her to send pictures through the internet because she doesn't want to be recognized.  You know, those dommes have a reputation to maintain.  I'd immediately write off someone like that.

I've heard that people can view your full profile without appearing on your "Who's Viewing Me" list by logging off the site and viewing you as a guest.  Haven't tried it myself, but it sounds plausible.

She contacted you, and wont supply a pic she is a flake or a him.  I ask people like this if they would open the door for someone who would not show them there face, normally that is the last I hear from them.

Not wanting to be recognized is a very good explanation indeed. Perhaps I have treated her too harshly, then. She offered to exchange images via a private e-mail address, but why would that be any safer? The net is the net. Once you are out there, anything can happen.

I think that discreetion is something that really isn't to be worried about on this site. Its not like an everyday joe or jill that you see at work is going to log onto this site on a regular basis unless they are in the lifestyle as well. I'd be concerned if it was a regular dating site of sorts but its specific to our culture. Anyone who truly appreciates this society wouldn't break the discretion of someone else. I think it goes to stand that everyone here is respectful of everyone elses feelings.

If she's got some kind of lil phobia about this site but offered to email her photos to you, I don't see what she could possibly be hiding by doing that. Why not let her send them there, and see what happens? I'd be more apprehensive about a person listed as a dominatrix yet addressing you as a sub/bottom. That seems to require some sort of explanation.

Perhaps cm should introduce a rating system like on ebay? You could leave responses on how your advances were appreciated and how your responses were received? I think a system like that would separate the mindfuckers from the real people, given sufficient time. Just like on ebay where many sellers refuse to deal with someone who has less than 10 positive feedbacks?

Well, if noone shows up here saying they have had bad experiences I will conclude for myself that this web site is pretty safe. OK, I think I know now what I wanted to find out. Thanks.

Good afternoon,
   i just don't like showing my pic online anyways since my friends are on it and they're pretty much all vanilla, except a couple that know about this lifstyle and me.

akisha -> RE: How safe is the cm site? (6/29/2007 2:33:15 PM)

This site is as safe as anything else in the world. Nothing is with out some form of risk. As for pictures, oh please, I can understand maybe not wantintg to have one posted on your profile but what's wrong with sending one with the e-mail?

As for veiwing your profile. I can read the whole thing and the only time you would know is if I maximized it on my screen so that it opened up. But I can read everything you've written with out doing that *S*  Bet you can't even tell I did it *S*

I'd have no worries about using this site. Personally I have met some really awesome ppl from on here. Met then face to face that is but first met here.

Use common sense like in all situations and you'll be fine *S*

edited because my keys on the keyboard keep moving (little monsters)

People have different worries. One person worries about bathtub slips; another worries about lightening; a third worries about different web sites; a fourth worries that the shark from "Jaws" will pop out of their bathtub.

However, worries about web sites can sometimes include things like:

1) Concern that the government is monitoring, e.g. cm, but not vanilla-mail.com;

2) Distrust for the owners or technicians at a particular site;

3) Worry that hackers have infiltrated a particular site;

4) Not wanting pictures to in any way be tied to a particular site, e.g. "why did you send your pictures to somebody on cm?!"

It may not be my worry; it may not be yours; but it theirs. OTOH, the fact that she'll send them via a second site is a good sign. Why not have her do it and then worry only when she doesn't?

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: How safe is the cm site? (6/29/2007 4:22:23 PM)

i won't post in my journal anymore, but it has nothing to do with sending pictures through here...There are just creepy people everywhere i reckon....

Najakcharmer -> RE: How safe is the cm site? (6/29/2007 4:23:54 PM)

Well, I just got a cmail from my neighbor - well, my former neighbor as he moved out a few months ago - who recognized my photo.  Now I don't care, other than thinking it's funny as hell and kind of cool that I had a kinky neighbor.  Obviously if he's on this site he's a perv too.  But if I really did care about being clocked as a perv by random people who might see me in the neighborhood and recognize my face, I wouldn't have a face picture on this site.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: How safe is the cm site? (6/29/2007 4:47:44 PM)

LadyHeart -> RE: How safe is the cm site? (6/29/2007 5:42:19 PM)

If you're going to exchange pictures off site, I'd use a generic Hotmail or Yahoo address on the off chance that you end up being spammed by someone who is in here for one of the many dubious commercial reasons that people infest this site for. That way, you can close the account if it's deluged with emails from Nigerian banks and Swiss lotteries. I work on the principle that everyone is doubtful until proved otherwise - cynical, perhaps, but the result of long experience, sigh

If you are hoping to read about someone's negative impression/bad experience related to this site, my adivce would be:
a. Try searching with the words "bad experience".
Or, b. stick around for about five minutes.
