For bib designs and stuff how could I turn normal printer and paper drawings into patterns, And how would I make a printed color sheet into a cross stitch pattern?
My dad sugested transfere paper, like where the design is printed on special paper and then you iron it on, also fabric transfere paper for turning ink print out's into fabric might work

I want to put a design like this onto a bib and embroidery it, or either turn it into a cross stitch pattern.

For those of you who don't know what cross stitch is, it's sewing little x's to make a over all design.

I don't know about transferring patterns, but my daughter does a lot of cross stich and she has found a ton of free patterns online. I think all she did was search for free cross stich patterns.

well yeah:D I find a lot of free things too. I just thought the pages I have as coloring pages would make awsome x stitch.

If you have a scanner, there are programs that you can buy that will turn any picture into a cross-stitch pattern (if I could remember the name of the two we've been looking at, I'd share, but of course, I can't remember).

Being an avid cross stitcher, I might be able to help you out.

Do you have the patterns you speak of on your computer already? There are programs that will take any pattern, photo, etc. and instantly create a cross stitch pattern from it, complete with colour charts, etc. that are based on the colours it reads, but also which can be altered to suit your tastes. I have/had such a program and loved it. Check out pcstitch.com. I paid about $50.00 for it, which is reasonable considering you have it forever and can use it as many times as you wish. If you only have a hard copy, it can be a little trickier and would require finding somewhere to scan it to file for you so that you could use such a program.

As for the question of how to get said pattern onto fabrics such as bibs. Any craft store should carry what I believe is called 'rough canvas'. It's basically a type of aida cloth specifically designed to go on the back of the material, in essence, creating the 'x' pattern necessary. It's very inexpensive, but seeing as the back of the work might be exposed, you'd want to take extra care in ensuring the stitches were very neat.

If you don't expect to use such a software program enough to warrant spending te money, and have the patterns on your system, (or can get them saved to file at a print shop, etc.); I am sure I can dig up my software and would be happy to turn it into a pattern for you. Assuming it's the same as I've done in the past, it takes mere minutes. It would take me at least until the end of the week to do though as I lost the program when I purchased my new computer. (Ooops). I'd have to contact the the manufacturer to get a new key code to reinstall it, which I keep 'meaning to do' anyways.

Hope that helps!

The one I have is really great, it's called Pattern Maker for cross stitch made by Hobbyware. If you want to you can send me one of the pics on the other side and I'll see if I can email you back the pattern.

Jewel

another few months and I'll be able to help you out too ... unfortunately, at this point, we're not buying anything else that we'd have to move (and that includes software - boxes and books and disks still have to be moved ... blah)

I had one called PCStitch or something like that. Worked great, although I only used it once or twice. I'm also an avid cross-stitcher, but only in the winter time :)

best regards,
fate

FelinePersausion,

Give me a day or two to track down my statement so I can contact them with proof of purchase and get a new key code to activate it.
