I HATE FLEA'S!

I bathed spark put vinigar on him twice which flea's are just supposed to obhore and stay away from and I put front line on him, and he goes out and gets re infested again We have a half acer yard and it's really to huge to treat the WHOLE yard, and We washed his bedding about 3 weeks ago. I just loaded them into the washer with it set on hard duty and hot water with some bleach

*edit*

What a big mistake that was, the pad was thread bare- ish to be gin with now one part of it is entirely thread bare, and bits of dog hair and bedding is all over the dum of our washer, AND a huge layer of dirt:\ Somebody is gonna be iiiiiiiiiiiiirtated in the morning if I can't beat them to seeing what me did.

A couple of drops of Dawn dish soap in their bath kills the fleas instantly, then in their food use garlic and brewers yeast, the combination repels fleas. Get an insecticide that you attach to your hose and simply water the yard with it. Do it on a sunny day just before rain is forecast to insure that it soaks in good.

Wow, Thanks to all the ideas so far, we have 3 dogs and a cat and are having a horrible time controlling the fleas, have done the front line and the baths with flea and tick shampoo, to no availe in fact my dog will get out of the tub and start scratching and chewing right away, alot of good that did huh? Have heard of the garlic treatment but didn't know of the brewers yeast, or the dawn. Will have to do those and get control of these pesky creatures, and spray the yard with insecticide also, clean the bedding of the dogs also has been done wonder if it would help to use bleach and the shampoo used on dogs for flea and tick treatment? ? ? Well be continuing to watch this thread and see what other helpful goodines can try something has to work, in wis. didn't have this much trouble but than what can survive sub zero weather, LOL. Thanks again

Do NOT combine frontline/advantage w/ flea and tick baths. They wash the frontline/advantage off.

Also, I recomend Advantix for outdoor dogs (not cats! It can kill them) because it kilsl just about everything.

Honestly, even with my indoor/outdoor dog I've never had a problem with fleas when I'm regular with the frontline applicatons. Just be sure it -is- frontline and not the cheap, in the pet-store Hartz type stuff. That stuff DOES NOT work.

Also, avoid flea collars, as they mostly don't work and can poision critters.

I've heared of using cedar in dog beds to keep down fleas, but only use it in beds the dog can't rip open. Cedar can be toxic if eaten and can cause respiratory trouble if the fumes are breathed in too large amounts

Dawn works but you must leave on for NO LESS than 20 minutes! I used to help a groomer and learned this. Protect eyes w/mineral oil or drops they sell for this. The yeast/garlic debate has been goin on for years. No proof unless personal. Also, if you want to protect your pet from harmful chemicals, diatomaecous earth is the best powder. Don't put on pets as it's an irritant if breathed. The tiny skeletons pierce the chitin of the fleas body and they dehydrate immediately. Good for carpet (wear a mask if large area) and bedding in small quantities. Skin so soft is reputed to repel if added to bath water. If you can still find it, Frontline stays in the sebaceous glands and treats the fur well. Advantix supposedly goes into the bloodstream. Collars and sprays are a definite no no for a 14 yr old. If you can find the D.E. in 50 lb bags, use a seed spreader and slowly broadcast across grass. It's added to horse feeds and can be eaten as it's non toxic (but of course don't inhale it or add it to food unless infested parasiticaly) and pretty cheap if you buy it in bulk. Google Diatomaceous Earth and check local co-ops. I find higher quality feeds like Solid Gold or the like good for older pets. See Naturapet.com for some others like Innova. If you have any long term serious health concerns, B.A.R.F. is another possibility. http://www.touchmoon.com/dotters/raw/index.shtml Also, herbal essential oils like cedarwood, lemongrass, rose geranium, peppermint, eucalyptus, bay leaf, tea tree, and lavendar are well known and easy to find. Yahoo's groups for natural pet care are often very helpful. Lemme know if you have anymore pet q's!

Frontline or Advantage or Advantix takes care of the problem. It works like a miracle...a bit expensive, but worth every penny.

Actually SS It took my neighbors pets a week to stop itching and biting and that was using frontline.

It's been 3 days and my dogs still got fleas and itches. I know he will have some residual fleas and itching but he's inside the more he itches and the longer he does, the more of a chance we the humans will be flea bit

After they've been Frontlined, the fleas can't bite the pets. He's probably scratching at old bites. Keep the pets that have been treated inside the house, give the place a good vac, and then the dog will be like a big flea magnet that mops up the rest of them.
