Status: offline 		NEW YORK (AP) - Scott Boras loves the World Series so much, he wants to make it best-of-nine - and open with two games at a neutral site. 
Arguing that the shift would create a marketing bonanza that would rival the Super Bowl, Boras outlined his ideas in a two-page letter he sent to baseball commissioner Bud Selig on April 15.

"I know from an owner's perspective, this is a gold mine," Boras said. "To have a World Series Weekend, WSW, I think it will create a stage that the game has not seen."

Boras, the high-profile agent with high-profile clients who earn high-octane paychecks, said in an interview Thursday that he will meet with the commissioner after the All-Star break to discuss his proposal. He would open the weekend on a Friday night with a televised gala announcing the MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards, and have the five top candidates for each in attendance.

i rarely will sit thru a reg season game, they seem so pointless..but post season play   :):):)  lol

Status: offline 		What was the number of regular season games at one time, 154? And now it's 162, I think. If they went back to the 154, then adding the extra 2 WS games would be possibly very interesting.

Status: offline 		Naw, if they're worried about it over-extending the season, then going back to 154 games would more than solve that, Lam.
 
Or, leave the WS at 7 games, and have the first one in a neutral site, like Wrigley.
 
And play one or two in the afternoon!

Status: offline 		and as a side note,i dont ever see the world series rivaling the superbowl....
the baseball world has 162 chance to win  in reg season.....then a few series of games to make it to the show,,then a 7 games series...
football has 16 games..... and a win or go home playoff....
seems like a bigger sense of urgency in the nfl,,which for me at least is far more exciting.
even if my hometown team sux ass year after year :(

Status: offline 		This is why I get no excitement from "professional" sports teams.
They're not "my" teams, they're Corporations in it for the MONEY.
I couldn't care less who "wins."
Same for college teams too.
Unless I went to a certain college why on God's green earth would I care if their team "won.?"
They only time I'd be interested is if I had some type of "edge" that no-one else had and could go to Vegas and exploit that edge.
I just don't have any "loyalty" to a "team" that's owned by a corporation.
I'm supposed to be "happy" because one corporation beat another corporation?
Watch that movie "North Dallas Forty" to see what I mean.

Status: offline 		I do not dig any further changes done to mlb.....It is a game that is supposed to allow for direct comparison fro teams of one era to another.....Part of the fun is the way the series is set up.....Will your ace be able to pitch twice and be effective?

Interleague play can be fun but other than make some additional revenue it actually can hurt a team....Why should the Cubs and the Sox play six games?....This year it worked to the Cubs advantage....I want to be St louis and get to play KC for six every year.

The game is a thing of beauty...You fuck with it too much and all that has come before begins to lose any context to the game that is being played today and that would be a horrible tragedy.

Status: offline 		True DG........... one of the things that disgusts me is the steroid freaks ruining that era to era comparison. And the pussification of some pitchers; when I was a kid, there would be a ton of guys that would be 20-game winners, now hardly anyone pitches enough to do so.

Status: offline 		Well you just so happened to hit on one of the issues baseball needs to solve before they start monkeying around with the World Series format.  I'd say that's problema numero uno, but maybe I'm naive.

Other things I'd look at are: (1) Figuring out some way to reward playoff teams that win their division instead of getting in via the wild card; and (2) Forcing teams that receive a luxury-tax payout to USE THAT MONEY ON PLAYERS.  Otherwise the luxury tax is really just a Yankee tax.

I agree, Lam; the steroid question is the main obstacle to baseball right now.

Status: offline 		Back in the days of no "divisions" in baseball; back when the team with the best record, in the American League would meet the team with the best record from the National League in a "World Series", for a period, the World Series was a 9 game affair.
 
This was, of course, before the leagues were split into Eastern and Western divisions (With Atlanta being in the West but, Chicago, magically, being in the National League East?) and before there was any such thing as "play-offs".
 
As someone pointed out; if we add a couple of more post-season games (There's even been talk of another play-off series being added) the "Boys of Summer" will need to show up for the big game wearing long underwear under the uniforms and parkas on top of them. I don't feature that idea.
 
At the very least, I think we should return to each league having two divisions and a 5 game L.C.S. and then, a nice 9 game series wouldn't be the worst thing to happen but, we need to stop mucking around with something that ain't broke!
