OK, they are going to close Gitmo.

Hang on here, before the dust settles I have a question.

Gitmo is in Cuba. Castro the dictator, the terrible violator of everything our oil men hold sacred is still in power and has been for a long time (I know he is out now). Cuban cigars are illegal still ? and that is just because we don't like Castro the dictator ?

Where is Gitmo ? It is in Cuba. How is it we have a jail in a country so hostile that you are not allowed to buy their cigars ? Are you telling me that even with a military presence in Cuba we cannot control who runs their government ? If that is so, we need to close about 100 military bases around the world.

So Castro was a dictator who would just kill people for speaking out against him, so nasty, ran torture chambers all that, the usual fucking bullshit, yet he lets us rent some land and run our own torture chambers ? What the fuck did I miss here ?

I just don't get it.

~chuckle~

I don't have an answer to that but I heard awhile back that some of the trade sanctions were going to be lifted (or maybe it was just under consideration). Lemme know when you get a good hand-rolled cuban. Errr, as in a cigar. I haven't had one in ages and it would be a good night for brady.

You're missing just about everything:

"The United States controls the land on both sides of the southern part of Guantánamo Bay (Bahía de Guantánamo in Spanish) under a lease set up in the wake of the 1898 Spanish-American War."

we have approx. 32 square miles down in gitmo....  approx. 16 square miles of it are land mined for our own security....
i spent many months down thier. you are told to not walk off the paved roads , or off the side walks in many areas....
they can have that place back so far as i am concerned :(
