I've seen so many people using that abbreviation on here but have NO clue what it means.

For that matter, can you all list the types of abbreviations you use on CM?  I only understand a few, like IMO, and IMHO.  That among a few others.  But most of them I do not understand.

So just list some abbs. you use on CM so that when reading posts in the future, I won't be so confused.

Thanks!

unmentionables.
It's against tos (terms of service) to talk abou them.  They are people below a certain age.

I can understand not talking about them in terms of the lifestyle.  But why is it you're not supposed to mention them period?  Using a pseudonym for them doesn't change what you're talking about, after all.

I..and this is just me as far as I know use *S* for "smile".

I can't think of other obscure abbreviations that I or others use.  WIITWD would be the other biggie but it has been covered already.

I'm right on board with you, Masque...I think it's a cya issue.  But how a psydonymn makes it better is beyond me.

[Mod Note:  whoops.  cklicked edit instead of quote.  sorry about that]

As has been stated repeatedly by myself and other moderators, it doesn't.  Whether someone uses a pseudonym or not, threads about children will be pulled when we come across them.

LOL hey, it works.

Yep, threads have been pulled with the 'code word' used quite often. Anytime you bring up youngins in a post or thread that is about illegal activities for minors, the post will be pulled.

On the other side though, I have seen threads that had nothing to do with kink at all ( illegal activities in regards to minors ), yet youngins were mentioned quite often.

Simply have to remember that the mention of youngins has no business being in a thread that ALL would consider illegal if in regards to them. Common sense folks.

Hah.. that's priceless. I just saw the term "UM" used in the Off-topic Discussion forum, and I wasn't sure what it meant. Opened up this forum, and saw "UM's".. saved me a lot of blank time wondering. :P

Just a quick question. Does "children" include past references? (Such as, my little brother, who's currently nineteen, two years ago? Eight years ago?)

That one irritates me the most because it seems to suggest common practice amongst the people. If "we" were actually a "we" & if there was any commonality to what it is the "we" "do" these boards would be rather quiet. The fact that they aren't supports that we are not a we & that we are in fact individuals with diverse practices.

Every time I see this wiitwd, my first thought is you must have a mouse in your pocket because I am me & you are you.... & what I do is most likely very different from what you do... or he does, or she does... & so on

As for abbreviations... there are many, too many to be able to create a complete list. The links offered should help you with some of the most common ones but with so many people having a strong desire for uniqueness, new ones are created everyday.

Best practice.... if you come across one you don't know.... ask what it means. If you wish to be precisely understood... don't use them.

See...I dont always understand the line....The ToS says not to mention minors...does that mean we cant discuss problems M/s couples with children have? Or does that mean we cant mention minors as they relate to anything kinky or illegal? Or does that mean we have to pretend like minors dont exist and they can never be mentioned at all? Its so confusing and not at all specified. I see UM's mentioned all the time, I do it myself on the off topic and discussion boards.

I have two children and mention them quite often. They are both of consenting age and nothing illegal about discussing them or their lifestyle choices. I think that CONTEXT gives a huge difference to the word children (as in my offspring of indeterminate age), and references to underage human beings whether you are related to them or not.

To my knowledge, none of My posts have been pulled, but I don't need to dance close to the line either. Some people do. ~shrugs~

It basically means that you can't talk about - say for example - how your Ms dynamic works with children in the house, or how you explain things etc.  It's the context itself, rather than the word 'child' that is the problem.  Doesn't matter if you use the word child, kid, UM, rugrat blahblahblah - doesn't matter. It's the context.  Animals would be the same thing.  You can't talk of activities with animals in a BDSM capacity.  But talking about the funny things they do - like there was a thread in the off topic, falls within TOS.  Talking about disciplining children, wouldn't be within TOS so yes, talking about children and discussing the problems Ms couples have with children on that level isn;t acceptable.  I find it pretty pointless calling children 'ums' - as though it makes all the difference and makes it 'safer' or 'ok' - so I always call them children and I never hide the fact that they exist.

Peace
