Bush commutes Libby prison sentence
By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer 1 minute ago

President Bush spared former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby from a 2 1/2-year prison term in the CIA leak case Monday, stepping into a criminal case with heavy political overtones on grounds that the sentence was just too harsh.

Bush's move came hours after a federal appeals panel ruled Libby could not delay his prison term in the CIA leak case. That meant Libby was likely to have to report to prison soon and put new pressure on the president, who had been sidestepping calls by Libby's allies to pardon the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney.

"I respect the jury's verdict," Bush said in a statement. "But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."

Gee, who'd have thunk it?! Is anyone else as shocked by this as I am? [sm=tongue.gif]

Any word on the Border Patrol Officers and that Sherrif, Gilbert Hernandez, I think his name is?

MstrssPassion -> RE: Bush commutes Scooter Libby's sentence (7/2/2007 4:34:46 PM)

exactly... whatshisname

They aren't part of the scandalous administration... so their asses are pretty much forgotten about as they serve no purpose

MstrssPassion -> RE: Bush commutes Scooter Libby's sentence (7/2/2007 4:40:29 PM)

lying about a blowjob was enough to have a vote to remove a president from office... yet lying to protect the asses of a president & his shady administration which has caused the death of hundreds of thousands of people isn't worthy of 2.5 yr sentence...

As much as I want to see every one of these guys fry, sadly I have to believe that every god damned one of them will get away with everything they have done.

Fitzgerald knew that Richard Armitage was the leak. He admitted he leaked Plame's name to Novak. So why was Fitzgerald going after Cheney and Rove when he knew who made the leak?

Now, now, you don't want to talk about that, Clinton's BJ had earth shattering consequences that was felt the world over, which will impact upon the free world for the next three hundred years.

Yup; he was caught black marketing leaf blowers to the wet backs crossing the border; and, worst of all, he removed the 'made in china' stickers.

Because Cheney LIED.

He wasn't convicted of blowing anyone's cover. He was convicted of LYING.

After Martha Stewart it's not like 18 USC 1001 comes as a surprise to anyone.

It's JUST LIKE finding drugs at a traffic stop. Cop didn't stop you for having drugs, they stopped you for speeding, and along the way another crime came to light.

Hello dovie [:D]

I don't have an answer, but one thing seems certain: if it has to do with politics, it also either has to do with money, or power.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Bush commutes Scooter Libby's sentence (7/2/2007 6:03:56 PM)

because Armitage was just another link in the hand me down from the source of the leak... which would have to have been from higher up the chain...  Bush-Rove &/or Cheney-Libbey

MP, watching the White House, and Cheney in particular, do their ducking and weaving and squirming, is sad. Beyond sad. But yeah, likely, they'll get away with it; things like what happened to Nixon are the exception, not the rule.

You know, on The Sopranos, they would have laughed at Libby not being able to do 30 months.

Pussy.

Didn't Nixon get a pardon before he was even found guilty?

MstrssPassion -> RE: Bush commutes Scooter Libby's sentence (7/2/2007 6:12:59 PM)

only because Ford didn't want to see a former president go to jail

Libbey was a piss ant & doesn't deserve the same respect

More to it than that.

Ford did not want the office of the President, and it's dealings, investigated by the court.

With Nixon pardoned, there was nobody they could go after high enough to force the White House to
give up it's secrets.

I suspect that is why Libby fell on his sword.

Sinergy

p.s.  I still think Bush will be indicted when he leaves office, and I suspect whoever is in charge in the White House will not be so quick to pardon him.
