I don't know why some people seem to think it's an either/or situation.  You can have a safeword AND a Dom who monitors your state AND use other indicators too - there's no rule against it.

And I don't know why some people are so incredibly invested in their own method - if it works for you, it works for you, but that doesn't mean that everyone else has to follow it to.  We all have our own methods and preferences.  Spank and let spank, people.

I've always had a safeword.  Never used it, usually forget it during play, but I have one.  I also have a Dom who stops when HE knows I've had enough - and he's good at stopping (Too good.  I've BEGGED him to go on, but he stops when HE knows it's time.  Dammit.)  I've also, at times, used the 'Leg cramp!  Back's locked up!' method, and that works too.  I'll take anything in a crisis.

absolutely, becca!!!  (agreeing with post above mine)

i have the normal red, yellow safewords...but havent had to use them till last time.  i've told Sir when something is uncomfortable, but not safeworded.

i had sensation turn to severe pain and had to safeword because of it.  he stopped IMMEDIATELY and made sure things were ok.  then went on to something different.

it all boils down to communication as far as i can tell

kitten, who has considered safewording on dealing with the idiot dogs..   ;)
