You know a theme re inactment of castle times dressing like they did living like they did 16 and 17th period retreats.

Westworld? (watch out for the robots when they go a bit odd though)

Dont know about the US, but in the UK we have living history groups (you must have the same?) where you can spend the weekend or a whole week living in almost any period. Theyre often the hard core of battle reenactment societies and do the whole thing with only what is understood to be period equipment.

Thing is though, even when I was younger and more foolish I wouldnt have gone that far! I mean, no toilet paper? No thanks!

We have one of the smallest castles in England near here; its just a tower really with a basement (dungeon/cold room for storage rather than other things), a street level, a second storey and then the ramparts. Its octagonal, about 30 feet wide and 100 feet tall. It was attached to a fortified manor house later in its life, though the house was knocked down years ago now, leaving the tower standing on its own. The lord of the manor lives there - though its a title only, and he bought it ten years or so ago when he bought the tower and restored it.

from pics- it seems homes on your side of the pond- are quality constructed. [more-so then in the US] we have some -well- the US is a very disposable society. also- it seems homeownership is perhaps harder in UK, EU, generally speaking.

sorta like when the herruicanes hit Homestead Florida. a kids tree house is better constructed....

the styles of homes vary from region to region. for instance- in New England- and some of the south- you have some nice architecture. head west- and you dont see as much of that.

lately tho- they are bulding only grandiose homes for the rich. nothing starter home like. where folks get the money- i have no idea.

Hmmm. Not so sure about the quality construction over here! We dont build anywhere near enough houses (which keeps the prices high, facilitating huge profits for the financiers) and those we do build seem to feature regularly on consumer affairs TV programmes due to the faults in them.

We have the problem that with house prices so high, the majority of whats being built is one bedroom and two bedroom starter homes - which are the cheapest to buy but still well out of range for most first time buyers here. Alongside that we have the four and five bedroom, two garages and all that "executive" homes (whatever that means) which are priced so high that I fail to see how anyone could afford them at all - yet they sell. In the meantime, there is little in the way of three bedroom homes which is what formerly provided housing to everyday families. This does not help in any way with the falling native birth rate here - no room for a family - which is why we then need to bring in immigrants to perform jobs and provide tax revenues, and then this in turn doesnt help with the housing crisis.

But we're in a trap. Build the houses we need and the prices will fall because of the increased supply - and house prices and the equity in homes that people have, is what is financing the boom in consumer spending, which is what is driving the economy. The wave will crash soon though - the consumer spending is driving inflation up, which means increased interest rates to keep inflation under control, which means people cant afford to pay their debts, including their mortgages. Where all these people from repossessed homes will go to is a question yet to be answered - although the latest wheeze from the financiers is the interest only mortgage - you basically pay only the interest on the purchase, and at term you still dont own the house, the financiers do. Good, innit?

Since you live in Sac I would go to Medeval Times in LA not far from Disneyland.

Tickets are $51.95 apiece is a nice dinenr show (no flatware) I have been several times. I think it is well worth it and they love it when you walk around in costume.

DO we have them on this side of the pond Yea it is called SCA and yes no toilet paper. One of the activities is Pesnsic (sp) it is held in August in the west Penn. To be there and camp everything has to be date appropiate 1400-1600 and they have the whole gig of wars and fighting.

It gets really expensive a tent alone can cost 1500 and armor 10,000!

I would rather go to festivals and leave at the end of the day! My temperment would not take too well to the "lifestyle" But then again I have been called Elizabeth I by those that know me go figure!
