As a lover of chains I saw tons of BDSM symbolism (well that and the sound of clinking always makes me slightly wet).
Chains as a symbol of both freedom & bondage.
Yummy!

Yay i finally saw it. I would say that they did not intend any bdsm undertones but as curvyslavegirl said the symbol of chains as freedom will certainly ring true for me :)

I really enjoyed it, not just for the chains.

I saw this the other night and was surprised how much it made me think about the relationship between a sub and a domme/dom. It's basically about Samuel L. Jackson finding a girl (christina Ricci) on the side of the road and his attempt to correct his life and her own. He basically chains her up and at first she is really against it, but as it goes on she gets into wearing the chain around her. By about an hour and a half into it even after the chain is off and she's free to go there's a scene where it's thundering and lightning out and she crawls over to him, sits by his feet and asks to sing her a song. Did anybody else who saw it really look at how much of a bdsm undertone there seemed to be?

Haven't seen the film but Ive seen clips and I was thunking the same thing;very subtle BDSM undertones. Not sure if that was meant though.

I loved this movie. wowzer @ the chain, yum.  Samuel Jackson learned to play guitar for this movie from some blues masters (no pun intended).  The scene where she crawls over, methinks, is symbolism of watching eachother's pain. For him, the deciet of his wife, for her, the abuse as a child. Both needing eachother at that moment to clarify that their status was equal. Both with equal but different pains and they found comfort in eachother. It would/could be described as M/s undertone. The power exchange was evident at that moment. Both of their ghosts were faced and rid of at that moment, once and for all.

I really wanted to like this movie, but I admit that it didn't do a thing for me.  I normally really like the more independent ones, and I really like Samual L. Jackson.  Neither Master nor I could get into it and turned it off before it was over.

I might try again someday, but it just didn't float my boat.

I just saw Black Snake Moan a week or so ago. Christine Ricci looked hot in the giant chain and I liked the movie. But I have to say that Samuel L. Jackson was more of a Daddy than a Daddy dom, and if anything sexual had happened between them it would have been dishonest and exploitative. I liked it just as it was, although her tugging on the chain after the wedding was way hokey.

I really liked this movie - it was very different and unpredictable.  I agree that they didn't intend any BDSM overtones, but those can be found anywhere for someone who's looking.  I finally saw Transformers last night and just about yelled out "YES!" when I saw "To punish... and enslave..." on the side of the decepticon car!

Only in the random stupidity thread, maybe. Which doesn't say much.......

We had a screening of the movie last night at our house, in the great company of Beach Mystress and her 'toy-boy'. The movie was better than expected. It was so good, that beth didn't fall asleep on until about 45 minutes into the movie, well over her average of 10-15 minutes.

I always wondered what happened to Jules after his partner Vincent Vega died and he announced at the dinner that the "divine intervention" of his near death experience inspired him to quit his life as a hit man. Obviously he must have turned State's evidence against Marcellus Wallace and moved to Georgia to be a farmer. The character may be called 'Lazarus' but you can't fool me - that's Jules!

The plot is similar to on-line life versus real time. The idea of having a chained nymphomaniac living in your house may be great in concept but the care & feeding are no easy task. If you don't keep an eye on her, you may find her humping the living room radiator pipes or the teenage boy who stopped by for the world famous butter beans you have growing in your garden.

Seriously though if you can get by the fact that that Wednesday's, I mean Rae's (I'll admit - seeing Wednesday Addam's nude was a little weird.) eye bruise change shape and color every other scene; and how her white panties stayed pristine white throughout the first hour even though she'd had them on while playing topless football, getting beat up and dumped on the road, and crawled around a muddy field; its a decent movie.

Perhaps it was decent because I didn't expect it to be, but it had a story worthy of the investment of time to watch. The quality of the actors involved had a lot to do with it. Besides Jackson, there was S. Epatha Merkerson from Law and Order fame, and John Cotharan, who played the Reverend R.L., also was believable. Justin Timberlake pretending he was straight and able to 'handle' his nypho girlfriend was a weak link. Maybe he would have been better if 'Rae' was short for Raymond.

The BDSM relevance? None, unless the thought of a 40 pound chain attached around your slave's waist is your 'WIITWD'. There was only one scene where it the chain came into play, and it more closely resembled Quint reeling in the shark from 'Jaws' versus anything erotic. Although as I think about it, there was a scene where she was 'walked' by Lazarus in the field, resembling something from the Folsom Street Fair. However, I would have gone with a lighter chain. The movie had more relationship, religious, and musical overtones than lifestyle.

The music was very good if you like good old fashioned Blues. Samuel Jackson learned to play the guitar for the film. I don't know if all the playing was his, but if not - he faked it better than Milli Vanilli.

Go in expecting little and you'll enjoy it. Think it will be Citizen Kane of lifestyle movies and you'll be disappointed.

Merc & beth give it 3 1/2 Stars out of 5.

Tonight's screening will be Mel Gibson's 'Apocalypto'. I hope to learn some Mayan language. The over under for beth falling asleep is 13 minutes.
