pahunkboy -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/3/2007 9:18:30 AM)

consume till ya drop.

thats- well- 9-11 we were supposed to "go shopping" WTF!!!!   why???

bloe me to the arresting officers.......

in english- a consumeristic culture such as we have is unsustainable.  PERIOD.

uwinceismile -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/3/2007 9:29:37 AM)

having actually read the article this time (yes, i do things bass ackwards at times)
i have to wonder,,,,if the only people being "harrased" were the police....
why didnt the police simply leave?

CrimsonMoan -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/3/2007 9:34:06 AM)

Cuz more than liekly they would have been called back there when someone complained about him and the damn bullhorn. I don't knwo about NY laws but despite the right to free assembly you DO need a permit when you pull stunts like that. No Permit? Cops can make you leave or if nessecsary(sp) slap on the ugly bracelet set and haul you off.

pahunkboy -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/3/2007 9:41:20 AM)

the issue migh have been the bullhorn.

panhandlers and beggars- along with you name it permeate the subways. commuters that are quietly going about their business should be able to do so without being "harrassed"- whatever the form.

this dude knows he is pushing the law....it is all a stunt- a protest against consumerism.

consuming is fine- in moderation- but the US is gluttonous!!
i applaud his message on that. his arests are calculaed. if he is willing to make a sceen so be it.

h thing one mus as- is the law evenly enforced.

i thouht the cut off is 6. 6 ppl make a permit necessary.  5 and under no.

If the article is right, he didn't have a bullhorn, just a rolled up cardboard megaphone.

becca333 -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/3/2007 10:00:49 AM)

Anyone using a megaphone or microphone in public should be arrested.  Especially those irritating touts outside shops.

Freedom of speech isn't free in NY.. you need to pay for about 10 permits in triplicate and then stand behind a barrier marked Free Speech Zone. It just gets more and more Orwellian every day, doesn't it?

farglebargle -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/5/2007 4:12:33 PM)

NYPD's had problems obeying the Law, hell, they have problems obeying Consent Degrees...

dragone -> RE: Say Whaaat??? (7/6/2007 2:25:16 PM)

Hello Alumbrado; You should actually take the necessary time to read your own OP. He was arrested  reciting the first amendant through a mega phone; later ...through a non electric BullHorn. not a rolled up cardboard megaphone, as you stated.

He was not in the 'Lawful' Free Speech Zone; as is the law in NYC; the police are in their rights, he disobeyed the law, had he wanted to do this 'show' he should have paid for the fee, obtained his permit and performed in the 'Free Speech Zone'. It's the law.

If he doesn't agree, then he can petition the courts for redress of greiviences. Bring it to a court, instead of the show Las Vegas style surpruflous demonstrational publicity stunt.

You got to obey the law, or is that too irrational.

Buckel Up...It's the Law
