Perhaps we would have a better chance at charging them with false advertising...It says on the side of all LAPD  vehicles "to protect and serve"

You would first need to get them to declare what it is they were protecting and serving.

I have watched the video of the bank robbery and there were three cops on one side of a car and the bad guy on the other....stand up and take the shot.
As for suicide that is a crock.... my brothers and I have done it on more than one occasion and for a damn site less money and a whole lot less backup.

You and your brothers have been pinned down by automatic weapon fire armed with only sidearms on more than one occasion?  Bummer.  Where was this?

You know it's not simply a reaction time issue.

Fact: Reaction time exceeds a committed shot by almost a half second.  Anyone who carries a gun for a living needs to know this.  To prove this to yourself take a dollar bill and hold it in your left hand and hold your right hand under it so that the bill may pass in between the thumb and forefinger of your right hand.  Thumb and forefinger being at the bottom of the bill. Release the bill with your left hand and try to grasp it with the thumb and forefinger of your right hand.  You will catch it every time.  Now do this with a friend you drop the bill and they try to catch it.  Their reaction time exceeds the time it takes for the bill to fall past their fingers.
thompson

wow i havent heard of that game since i was a kid!

Back in the days of 6" wooden rulers we used to do that same thing.  my reaction time with my fingers within 1/2" of theirs i would catch the ruler within 1 to 2 inches of the fall.

Of course the guy dropping the ruller doesnt require any time to target.

i think the best way to test that is with safety glasses and bb guns.

Stef, they're "stupid" for excercising their Constitutional Rights which the state of Massachusetts is trying to deny them?

No, they are stupid for commiting a felony.

You guys *still* don't get it in Massachusetts.

Just WHO the fuck is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to be denying The People their Rights and trying to tell The People what to do?
They've become a socialist nanny state.

Thank god we have great patriots like you whose solution to the problem is running away to another state instead of trying to change things.

Fucking hypocrite.  You're in no position to preach to anyone else.

Stef, I'm not "preaching" that's the way it is!
If Massachusetts wants to be in the Union they need to follow the rules like everyone else!
Do you people need a "permit" to Vote there yet?
Watch, that'll be the next thing they go after!
I hate Bush but I wish he'd send Federal Troops to Massachusetts just like President Kennedy did to Alabama.
Talk about a backwards state!

I thought it was the Alabama national guard he federalized and used in Alabama.  He did send federal troops to Mississippi though.

That is all well and good but how will they work in every ones six shooter.  Thirteen hundred bux for a gun seems more than a little excessive.  Yes I know there are more expensive weapons out there but you can still get lots of wheel guns for less than two hundred, even a new .45 from thompson center or springfield armory will set you back less than $500 and I guarantee they will kill  you just as dead.
It has been my experience that the folks who perceive that they live in an environment that requires them to carry a pistol watch a lot of tv.  I have been out of the military for forty years and in all that time I have not needed to use a gun for personal defense once.  Yes I am the same mouthy, opinionated asshole in person that I am here.

30 for me and i did have one "near" use, but they appropriately changed their course of action.

Come on, comparing wartime experiences to what happenned to these officers is tenuous at best.

I'm not sure what the LAPD oath is, but I'm guessing it goes along the lines of 'upholding the laws of our city' and not 'willingly stand in front of a firing squad.'

Amazing, the notions that some people come up with in order to pronounce themselves superior to those who put themselves in harm's way.

No difference... which is why calling the North Hollywood police action cowardice implies a distinct a lack of appreciation of what facing a bullet is like.

No one, military or police or firefighters, now or Vietnam, is trained to rush in ignoring tactical considerations,  without proper equipment, and get themselves killed for no other reason than wanting to look like a hero.

The job is to stay alive long enough to eliminate the threat.

yeh well there were how many cops?  and the 2 bad guys can only point their guns in one direction at a time.  the cops had them out flanked but did not squeeze off a fatal shot shot till they got an m16 that penetrated the vest.

There is no such thing as outflanked, if your issue weapons won't penetrate...and the head shot comment works better in Hollywood than in reality
So training and policy dictate taking cover until things can be changed.., and the threat can be neutralized which is exactly what these officers did.

well you just made my point.  as a kid i used to get my kicks shooting sparrows out of the air with a 22.   laugh but watch a sparrow fly sometimes.  maybe comparing the abilities of my untrained self  to trained police is a bad example.   i sort of doubt these guys would even see a shooter perched 100 yards away while others are popping 9mil rounds randomly at them.  a head shot at 100 yards is like having the braod side of a barn for a target.   that is simply not hollywood in this case...  sorry.

You should go down to your local PD with that, they would probably pay you very handsomely to demonstrate how you can make a head shot with a pistol at 100 yards while not taking cover from automatic fire....
