a true reason to celebrate our countries history?
or just another reason to be off of work, and have a cookout with folks you dont want to be with anyway?

LOL....why not just have the cookout at your place and invite who you DO want to be around?

See, this is what you do. You have two BBQ's. One for the family. Set a time for them to arrive (late and right before the food is done) and after you eat you proclaim how tired you are and you have to get to bed. Then you have another one on a different day where you have everyone come over in the early afternoon and stay until the wee hours (or until you get sick of them too).

Spend the day with my munchkin seeing a movie, having more time with him, taking a nap, relaxing. Sounds like a nice way to spend a Wedns to me.

I will be working and so will Master.  Although we celebrate it, in most ways it just ends up being just another day.

just another holiday in which many kids (in the neighborhood i live) shoot firecrackers at each other, crazy neighbors get drunk and fight until 3a, and attend another family gathering that will end in a major argument before 5p

Both. Well, without the hanging around people I don't like. I don't do that, family or not.

Have a safe one.

Been raining/storming here.
Just as well since I am house bound.
Besides, we really needed the rain anyways!

I had a fantastic time yesterday for the 4th celebration at Lake Conesus. RochesterBadBoy had $5,000 worth of fireworks and he toook some classes this year on how to make them. RBB does a big show for his extended family at the cottage on the lake. I got to help light the fireworks: parachutes, streamer shells to test the wind direction , roman candles, 3" diameter and 3 ft long (arial display shell rocket), rockets,  Parachute barage,  fountains, bottle rockets, etc. When the big show happened, RBB let me shoot off the very first BIG fireworks! What an honor! I also got to be right out there on the end of the dock when RBB and his brother >>> set off all the huge ones. It was unbelievably awesome! The concussion, the colors, all of it straight over my head. Some burst 100 ft in diameter, and height 175 ft!!  The power, the wonder, the dock shaking with every fuse lit. The claps of sound just right, not too loud, just right!  I was right there, 6 ft from hank. I've never experienced anything like it and am totally hooked!! Just 364 days to go before I  can do it again! *wag*  The entire lake was lit up at 10 pm with all the houses participating. The Conesus Lake Association gives out many flares for each house, and everybody lights 'em at 10. The fireworks had already been going since 4 pm and the lake explodes with colors, sounds, and RBB's awesome show went for over a solid hour, and was the grand finale for the lake. We heard people screaming any yelling from other parts of the lake when he finished up. he was right in the middle of it all, lighting stuff and smacking himself  down on the dock, as sparks went everywhere. One time I screamed at him (he couldn't hear too well at this point) about a huge spark that was on his long braid...finally he heard me and flipped it out of his hair!

Please google The Ring of Fire for Lake Conesus. Incredible sight! I got goose bumps. The red flares all around the lake and the fireworks going off all around us, bonfires at almost every house. The view from the end of the dock was mind blowing. The flares connected everyone and made it one huge celebration, a community party. After the fireworks it is a tradition in RBB's family from 1955 to serve hot food after the fireworks to avoid traffic leaving the lake. We left at 12:15 am and still ran into a little traffic! RBB and I were covered in the wonderful scent of  fireworks fallout. You could feel it: Some of them explode like shrapnel and land like plops of ash. None of it is hot, just kind of clumpy. His long hair was ok. lol. I checked.
