Can a female be called a Master? or does she have to be called a Mistress?

Anyone can take on whatever title they deem best for them. One's gender orientation is not one's biological sex.

So is it common to have a female that calls herself Master?

is it common for a man to be called Master in the world at large? It's just a personal thing. Depends on the person.

Not to be cryptic but don't concern yourself with titles. If You want to be Master, Mistress, Sir or Lady go for it. The only rule is explore all the possibilities and don't limit yourself. You will find as you explore this realm that there are hardcore people who would try to convince you to follow certain guidelines, namely there's. Anytime power comes into play you have to learn to deal with it. Once upon a time there was the notion that Masters were male and Mistresses were female. But as you can see here, that's not always the case. I recently came across a 'sub' who called herself a 'defiant' because she liked to defy her partners to hurt her. Her concept was that even though she controlled the type of s/m she'd push herself to take all they'd give and to see who'd 'break' first. Is this submissive? Maybe, maybe not. But who cares? She's happy. If public play is to be your thing, you may have to abide by some general terms to interact with others in the scene. If you're lesbian i think calling yourself Master is really hot, but hey, that's just me ;)

My pet will refer to me as "her Dom" and I could care less about her using a term that's more commonly seen as male than female. Then again, I don't see myself as really being either gender anyway.

When we're around other people, she calls me "domo", which is a gender-neutral Japanese term of respect, more respectful than "san" and less than "sama."

I know a very good Master Daddy who happens to be a biological female.

LadyAngelika -> RE: Master or Mistress? (6/16/2005 4:58:52 AM)

You write in your profile:
quote:

So, I might be a female, but I still call myself a Master. I think it fits me better! :)

You are the Master then. That's all the justification you need.

In fact, I was in a top/bottom woman-woman relationship when I was younger where I was the bottom and I called my top Sir. So I can totally relate.

Welcome the boards!

What you wanna be and what you are isn't always the same. If you wanna be "master" and you've found yourself a someone who is willing to play along, why the hell not? Some of the gay guys at my gym call each other "girl" too. Doesn't stop them from using the men's room, I notice. As long as you don't demand that someone who still thinks that men are male and women are female (odd thought that) call you "Master" there is no harm, no foul.

Good for you!!!! And call yourself whatever you want, isn't that your choice as a dominant? I thought among all the things we were supposed to decide, our name and title is surely one of those things...

Well, I've read the posts and there's one thing that I noticed was missing from them.

Sometimes people will use the Master or Mistress or Mister or Sir or Madam or whatever withing their "title" to add to the overall name.

Some examples that I have come across...

Mister E (mystery - Elaine - very masculine Domme)
Miss Terry (mystery - crossdressing sub male)
Master E (mastery - ok, this one was a guy so it fits I guess)
Sir Gay (Sergei - sub with a russian first name)
Dom May (domme - nice older Domme named May)

I'm sure there are many more out there like these examples.

To me, it all boils down to one thing...
Don't look down on my kink and I won't look down on yours
(vanilla translation - to each their own)

J

PS. I go by J, just J, I can't tell you how many times I've been introduced as Master J, Mister J, etc and I always say, "It's just J". Of course, now some of my smart ass friends are introducing me as "Justjay". [:@] AAaarrgghh!
