I read where one city in the US took the cameras down - the reason ? People stopped speeding and running redlights, revenues went down !

cyberdude611 -> RE: omg!!! TRAFIIC CAMERAS SUCK!!! (7/5/2007 5:26:14 AM)

There was one city that when the speeding tickets and light-running went down, they changed the speed limits and shortened the length of time a light is yellow. Revenues picked back up.

It's all a scam. In many cities, they rely on that money to fund city/county programs. So they need to get that money by hook or by crook.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: omg!!! TRAFIIC CAMERAS SUCK!!! (7/5/2007 5:31:58 AM)

we have many around Chicago ...some that actually take pictures and others that record yet both will mail traffic tickets to your residence - $95 is the fine if caught on film.  even public transportation buses are ticketed and fined too for running red lights.

Damn!!!  They can see me when I am giving him a blow job while he is driving & stopped??

This is probably a really radical idea, but we could just OBEY THE LAWS?[:-]

This is just an observation...if one were to take one of those privacy screens that we put on our computer monitors and attach it to your license plates then the camera cannot read your plate....but then that would be soooo wrong[;)]

It's nothing more than a revenue-grabbing apparatus and a nuanced, cloaked form of taxation without representation. Surely my conscious wouldn't suffer one bit if sneaky, money-grubbing bureaucrats were beat down with every method possible.

Tip of the Stetson to anyone who can fuck those cameras over.

they actually did a news report here on a type of clear spray paint that could make your license impossible to read.....seems many, who run the toll booths, have discovered this....and for the ones that didnt know about it, the story on the 6 oclock news sent them running to the hardware store im sure[:D]

Why bother?

That spray is as big of a hoax as those 'magic pens' that stores use to supposedly detect counterfeit bills.

So the cameras are a money making boondoggle coming, and going....[:D]

Hi Ranger; I suppose you've read, as everyone has, and seen the film 1984, Geo. Orwell. In one film, with Richard Burton, our haggered hero John Hurt, is given a task to decipher a suspected subversive book. In the end, you find out, the inspector general wrote the book, not that he was a subversive, no, quite the contrary. Orwell used the old proven fascist mode of rule, create the chaos, then bring the solution to the chaos; there was a screen play years ago with Eddie Albert, basically a three actor play, mostly set in one room. Therein, Albert is confronted with this mirror, which actually is a surveillance monitor, and no where in the room was there any private unseen location, once Albert moves to a location outside of the view of the monitor, and is cautioned to return back to view. It's worth rethinking the 'predictions' of Orwell, more than just a writer, he was a prophet.

I did a promo gig for a company who was in the bus of these surveillance cameras. They are amazing little devices; positioned atop those poles, they can actually read the fine print on your drivers license; ...with amazing clarity.... and guess what; an operator can, from a remote location, 5 even10 blocks away, zoom in on people on the street, run idenity checks for wanted suspects from photos, observe your comings and goings, suspicious activities, and just any activity; They are positioned in malls, shopping centers, just about anywhere people gather. And...yes they can zoom in and watch an actual blow job being performed, that is, if you are in any proximity to the camera.

But people, remember, you have a right to privacy, you are not under surveillance 24/7/365; these 'traffic cameras' (that is all they are); are for your safety, to enforce traffic violations, they protect and serve.

As far as just simply obeying the laws, a radical idea for sure; and as Fargle pointed out...if you are a connected white guy.....well, the more bucks you have, funny how less and less of the laws apply to you; it's directly proportional to your position and wealth. The higher up you are, even buddy with the king, you can dictate your own terms and create the laws as suits your personal agenda.

Smiley, just slow down, or maybe just dump that BMW and get a lesser prestigous car; or elevate to a Bentley. With a Bentley, you would be surprised how laws just vanish away.

i use those pens at work, and they do work-but only once.......once they have touched a counterfeit bill, they have to be thrown away and replaced.

nothing better than having a 4th grader bring a counterfeit bill to pay for their lunch........luckily, the parent had gotten it as change somewhere else...but lawd at the paperwork i had to fill out....

anyhow, back to your regularly scheduled programming......

Those pens contain iodine, and the only thing they can detect is the presence of starch.. if the counterfiet bill is printed on homemade paper, it might work.

The Amazing Randi has been running the Secret Service (and clerks) ragged lately by getting a stack of bills fresh from the bank, recording the serial numbers, and then sprinkling them with starch powder before presenting them at stores employing those pens.[;)]

MyMasterStephen -> RE: omg!!! TRAFIIC CAMERAS SUCK!!! (7/5/2007 8:32:12 AM)

So is the OP whingeing about getting caught breaking the law, or about having to pay a fine for breaking the law?

dragone -> RE: omg!!! TRAFIIC CAMERAS SUCK!!! (7/5/2007 8:48:01 AM)

Hello; yup; I think that is really what this thread is about. Damn those pesky little gagets. The other contributions however, do prove interesting. But, yeah, I do think it's about being caught and having to pay. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

The OP's insurance rates must be out of sight.

Those pens trigger based on the presence of starch.

SO, and bill sprayed with a can of spray-starch will false-positive on the pens.

*edit* : What Alumbrado said.

actually,
i am complaining about being held responsible for someone elses inability to follow traffic signals, and the states insistance that i pay thier fine.
doesnt seem to be that difficult a concept to follow really.is it? should i type slower for some of u?
i am a big believer in personal responsibility. i ran a traffic light late once, and i paid my fine. 2 other times, others in my one of my vehichles did the same. why should i be held responsible for thier act? if this is whineing, then so be it.
if u cant understand that, perhaps next time i break a traffic law, and get a fine, ll simply send the bill to you to pay [:D]
and sorry to dissapoint you, i have zero points on my lisccence, (here they dont add points for it) and my insurance is quite reasonable ..
i havent had a moving violation (aside from the one red lite ticket about 2 yrs ago) in the last ......dunno, 9-10 yrs

MstrssPassion -> RE: omg!!! TRAFIIC CAMERAS SUCK!!! (7/5/2007 9:12:25 AM)

paying the fine equals admitting to guilt.... end of story

best way to deal with receiving a ticket that you feel is unfair is to contest it... but do so prior to building up a record by paying tickets, because of course, paying is admitting guilt

In most cases, the cop doesn't show up... case dismissed

Some cases the judge will review your driving record... if its clear, he/she will dismiss or reduce fine &/or not apply any points

but truly, the best way to handle this is not to be out doing crap that would get you ticketed in the first place
