Status: offline 		Me and my girlfriend (not sexual lol) were going to the grocery store to cash her paycheck yesterday so we could get gas and go hang out down the shore- we both were broke ...Well, the grocery store discontinued cashing paychecks and we had absolutely no cash to get gas to even get our asses home and this older woman walked up to us and asked us what was wrong and when we told her she handed us $20 dollar bill and said God bless you ...I didn't know what to think and tried to give her my phone number so I could atleast give the money back to her but she refused..............I never knew people in this day and age even cared anymore ....And today I got an email here on collarme- made me smile

Status: offline 		While my GF, at the time, and I were driving up the I-5 freeway in Oregon to Silver Falls (OMG what a beautiful park) the front passenger-side wheel of her VW Beetle sheared the lugnuts and came off... at 75 mph. Thankfully it stayed in the wheelwell. We were about 10 miles from the next town and not looking forward to walking. This very nice, older lady offered us both a ride. She took us too the auto parts store, waited with us while they got our order and then drove us BACK to the car. She wouldn't take anything from us but a 'thank you and a smile'.

At the time it re-affirmed my love for the 'common man'.

Status: offline 		We were eating breakfast at one of our regular restaurants. When we asked for our bill the waiter said that the couple that just left had already paid it.  We were shocked, had never seen that couple before or since then.  We "paid it forward" by buying breakfast for another couple a few weeks later.

Status: offline 		i was once stranded wayyyyyyyy out on  LI (at least 80 miles from where i lived at that time) and i had my 3 year old brother in my care, i was 17 at the time.  i had no money, not even change for a phone call and the people who i was with were intoxicated so i refused to get in their car.  i went up to a taxi driver and asked him if he could take me to my town, he laughed and asked me if i knew how much money that would cost me when a little old couple happened to be walking by at that moment who happened to be from my very same town, they offered me and my brother a ride home.  They asked no questions, were very kind to me, and drove me right to my front door.

Status: offline 		i have experienced many random acts of kindness over the years, but the most recent one was after i broke my foot & wasn't allowed to walk on it...i went to the Winco & shopped in the little electric cart on a fairly busy day...when i got to the checkstand, i was laboriously putting my items onto the counter...i knew that there were several people in line behind me & i knew that i was moving really slowly...the young man behind me, instead of griping about how long i was taking, came around & put the groceries up there for me...since it's a bag-your-own store, he also walked to the end & bagged all my groceries for me & when i got there, put them into the cart for me...i told him that it was my birthday that day--which it was--& he had just given me the best present i had ever received:  faith in the kindness of my fellow humans

Status: offline 		I have had it happen to me, far too many times to count, I try to put forth Random Acts on a daily basis. If I can't live by example in regard to the type of treatment I expect from others then I simply become just another sheeple in the herd. I will share the one that started it all for me many years ago.

Wee hours of the morning after having gotten off work I'm driving through the worst neighborhood in a car that was kept running daily by both curse and prayer. I barely had enough money for gas and milk that I needed for my um. Sure enough my tire blows. This wasn't a time of cell phones so it meant getting out to walk and find a payphone or an open station or fix it myself. It was kind of the last straw in a very rough day. As I'm sitting there crying there is a tap on the window and I look up to see the biggest meanest looking guy that I had probably ever known in my life backed by 4 other guys almost as big.

He obviously saw my shock and fear because he backed up, motioned for me to crack my window and held up his hands in supplication. He instructed me to not get out of the car, lock the doors and pop the trunk for the jack and spare tire. A few minutes later he came around and said the spare wasn't going to work and to stay in the car. One of them would find a tire and they would stay and watch over me until they could repair the flat. As I sat there waiting a couple of kids walked towards the car and as soon as those guys came out of the shadows they quickly walked away.

Where the guy found the correct size tire at 4 am is beyond my comprehension. They finally got the tire changed and he came back to the window. I explained that I didn't have much but I wanted to give them something to repay them for helping me and pay for the tire they replaced. If he would give me his address I would send him the money. He went back to confer with his pals and wrote down what I thought was his name and address. He reminded me to the tire so I would have a spare and wished me a safe night.

I went home and fell into bed and didn't remember the note again until the next day. Wrapped in a piece of paper was enough money to replace the spare tire easily and on it was written..."if it had been my mom or my sister I would want someone to do what I did. If you really want to repay me do what you can for someone else in need." I still have that note. It's framed and sits on my desk where I can see it daily.

I have found that when I put forth kindness it comes back to me in return so I practice it daily. Karma...is a wonderful thing.

Status: offline 		In December of 1999, I was pregnant, I had been sick as a dog with pnemonia flu and morning sickness, and since it was Christmas time, I was out of bed running a few erronds with my mother. We stopped at the bank by the mall, she went to the walk up ATM an I stayed in the car, trying to relax and NOT be so miserable, I had a frown on my face that even Santa would not have approved of. Some people were getting into the car next to me, and the man who was getting into the passanger side of that car, knocked on the window of my car, put his fingers at the corners of his mouth and made a 'smile' with them. It was something so simple and so unexpected, that it made me smile and that made the rest of my day better. I have never seen that man again, but I have never forgotten him either. He changed a dismal day and week into one that I have remembered all this time and that I doubt I will ever forget.

Status: offline 		I have never been the recipient of random acts of kindness, I tend to think that when I was younger, in the area I grew up it was not common. I wish I had some wonderful stories about the things that were done for me, but I really dont. I have, however, done many for other people. Same mindset as was mentioned above, if these were my family or friends, Id want someone to do it for them. And if I were in that situaition I could only hope someone would for me.
I have shared some of my stories about what I have done for others and I have tons of them. I may never have been on the recieving end but I feel better knowing I can do random things for other people.
One story that was random kindness, though not necessarily FOR me...
I was working in MA, with a homeless shelter. There were many children that lived there with their mothers, and it was getting close to christmas time. The other volunteers and I decided that we wanted the kids to have a real christmas, and we were going to go out of our way to make it happen.  We wrote letters to businesses about getting donations, and we had a good bit of food for a christmas dinner. What we didnt have were gifts. Most of the toy stores we had written to were overtaxed already and didnt have the spare merchandise to give us. We werent sure what to do, but we were going to have the party.
We did finaly get a letter back from the owner of a small toystore.  He had had a fire, and his insurance was going to cover all his stock.  There was some that hadnt been damaged, and we were welcome to it. However, his one catch was he had to be Santa.
What he didnt tell us was tat the "little bit that was left" was an entire storage shed.  We had 2 gifts for every child. They were never so happy and he was thrilled to be able to bring that many smiles to everyones faces.  He thanked US for the oppertunity to make so many children smile, and we couldnt get over the way things played out.
All becaue my friend Chris and I couldnt handle the idea of a child never having a christmas.

Status: offline 		I just like to make other people feel good about themselves.  Ther eis good in the world, it jus takes a bit of finding sometimes.
This is what I do.  I give. I have tons of stories like these. things I have done over the years.  Ive gotten thank yous from some people, hugs from others.  My name has never been in a paper, my contributions never recognized.  But, I do get to tell other people the stories, and see them smile (usually) too. Thats enough for me.

Status: offline 		Exactly, I don't perform those little random acts in order to be recognized, I do them to see someone else smile. To brighten up someone else's day. I do it for them...and yes, I suppose in a way I'm selfish and I do it for me. For that feeling of being centered, balanced, of having given back. It's an awesome feeling. I can smile all day on that feeling alone. When it comes down to it, that smile, theirs and mine, are all the thanks I even need.

Edited to add.....Up to snuff?...WTF?....Is it tobacco? what does this even mean? Someone so disgusting that they were not eligible to star in a snuff film?....I love old English sayings...I could google it....But I'm running with the film definition.

Ya know JerseyKrissi...I never asked her how she felt about me.....All I can recall, is that when I left she was in the shower frantically scrubbing herself with steel wool....If my recollection is correct I heard her talking to herself between sobs saying something about how she "couldn't get clean."

Yeah, I think she enjoyed herself and thought I was a philanthropist in the process.  Just doing the Lord's work. I give till it hurts......You.
