OMG!!  i had to stop watching the video, i couldn't listen to anymore of it.  i have two UMs around that age and the thought of something like that happening to either one of them is just too sickening to even think of.

This is why you should always check ANYTHING you are gonna leave your kids alone in. You can't depend on maitence crews, managers etc. I give this little girl credit though because she is nnot feeling bad for herself one bit. And this has seriously fucked up her life as far as her diet and eatign habits go

They had it in the paper this morning and they are trying to figure out her future treatment. It also said that she got out of the pool all by herself (I didn't watch too much of the video) so they didn't know how badly hurt she is. Its just so sad, I hope that she is able to have a some what normal life after this.

The girl was in a kiddie/trainer pool at a golf resort. She end up getting sucked onto the drain by way of her ass. The force of the drain was so strong that it pulled her small intestine out through her rectum. Somehow she managed to get off the drain and out of the pool she made it two steps and then collapsed. After a logn surgery to fix the damage it was determine there was nothing they coudl do for her small intestine so it was removed. Once she was healed up she told her parents she WANTED to be on the news to make sure this never happend again to any other kids or adults.

The resort manager is saying he had no knowledge there was an issue with the drain and the father is saying that the fillter/grate over said drain ahd come off and was gone when this happened.

Years ago I had heard a story where someone's arm got caught in one of those drain holes, and it was in deep water and the person unfortunately drowned to death.  Apparently the suction must be unbelievably strong. You would think the grates over them would be well mounted with some type of fool-proof system. 

I hope the girl will be ok.  Heck if they can transplant organs, maybe there is some type of specialist out there who can fix her intestinal issues.

The actual video doesnt actually  show anything, beyond pics of the pool and area and the lil poppets face, but the description is horrific enough without any pics, I dont want to add details, purely because of TOS

I have heard of several instances of the same thing happening, small children accidentally falling or sitting over the drain of a pool, and having the bowel sucked out of them through the anus. About 15 years ago, it happened to a little girl who lives in the next town over. You'd think by now they would have recessed the vent or drain behind a mesh that would diffuse the suction so that it could not cause this type of accident. This is certainly not a new problem.

Here is a link to a CDC recommendation about prevention of this type of accident. This was based on a 1991 injury of a child.

The little girl will live the rest of her life with an illiostomy (or perhaps a colostomy) if indeed a large part of her small intestine was ripped out.  The news accounts aren't clear how much of her colon remains.  A horrific and needless accident.  She is lucky she lived, as the hemorraging must have been fierce.  There was a similar accident in a water park in Texas a few years ago, and several children drowned, as I recall. 

And although the video was not itself graphic, I couldn't watch the entire thing either.

  Water is an extremely dangerous thing.Children should never be left alone around water.Whether it`s a pool,a river,lake or ocean.
Moving water is many times more dangerous.

I`ve heard about this happening in the past.When I worked as a life guard,kids were never out of my sight.

My ex pulled our friends un-conscience daughter out of their back yard pool,only minutes after she slipped under.As soon as her face broke the surface,she came to and started coughing and crying.A few more minutes and there could have been a tragedy.

This sadly has happened quite a few times before. I feel sad for all involved. The poor kids their life has changed for the worse.
Hope these places got sued. they deserve it and i am not a sue freak. This was total negligence in my book.

Wanna hear it ? You got it.

If I were that girl's Father I would sue for a BILLION dollars.

I would instruct my attorneys to use the agrument that since she is young and still growing she need thos body parts to extract nutrients from her food to grow up healthy. This affects her whole life. Period.

If I owned the company that made the pool I would go door to door in necessary and get all then kids out of the pool NOW and then go around, free of charge, installing rigid mesh cages on that intake vent.

I believe that anything less is not acting responsibly.

Before you call this harsh, think of it being YOUR daughter. Damn, if you didn;t already it could change your opinion a bit eh ?

If I owned the company I would hide enough assets to get by and let them have the rest, then somehow put grates on those intakes on every last one of them that got sold. And it would be way bigger than you think. The engineer might say "nine inches diameter is enough" and I would say "double it".

They would be installed in a way that they NEVER come out no matter what. I mean if enough force is applied, it breaks the intake so that it can't intake anymore.

What were they thinking ? This is even worse than the Chinese toy thing with Mattel. Hmmmm, were those pools made in China ?
