Fred Thompson aided Nixon on Watergate
By JOAN LOWY, Associated Press Writer2 hours, 1 minute ago

Fred Thompson gained an image as a tough-minded investigative counsel for the Senate Watergate committee. Yet President Nixon and his top aides viewed the fellow Republican as a willing, if not too bright, ally, according to White House tapes.

Thompson, now preparing a bid for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination, won fame in 1973 for asking a committee witness the bombshell question that revealed Nixon had installed hidden listening devices and taping equipment in the Oval Office.

Those tapes show Thompson played a behind-the-scenes role that was very different from his public image three decades ago. He comes across as a partisan willing to cooperate with the Nixon White House's effort to discredit the committee's star witness.

Someone is scared!!!

To be digging up dirt on someone's past who hasn't even announced he is running yet shows someone is already scared...

I wonder who it is....

Damn straight.

But if you think for one second that's it's tied to a candidate affiliated with the Democratic Party, you haven't just missed the boat....you've walked off the end of the pier.

Hey, my problem with Thompson, is that if you'll defy US Law by bootlegging in Cuban Cigars ( Supporting and Enriching Fidel Castro's Communist Regime ) , what US Law *won't* you break?

He's a Fucking Commie Sympathizer, Plain and Simple, and a RAT, to boot!.

Remember, NEVER TRUST A RAT.

I read about the Thompson, Nixon, Watergate link.

According to Nixon, the term "not too bright" is incorrect.  Nixon thought he was a dithering idiot.

Which brings me back to my post in some other thread, why are the Republicans so desperate to nominate the intellectually challenged, insane, or mentally ill as candidates for President?

Doesn't he got that Buford Pusser kinda thing going on, as well as top gun?  Well, the last idiot made president of the united states so in keeping with nixon years, why change dicks in the middle of a screw? vote for nixon in '72. the dems are gonna run hillary which is equally as repugnant to me

Yeah, why can't they get good candidates, like Hillary or Joe Biden?

Gore gave his standard non-answer today at the Live Earth concerts regarding running; I've thought he was playing it cool, but I'm beginning to wonder.

Obama is an interesting option. Bloomberg would be, too. I have a lot of respect for Chuck Hagel, but I don't know if I'd want him to be president.

Here's a good piece on Bloomberg - http://www.usnews.com/usnews/opinion/articles/070617/25edit.htm

Joe Biden is a plagiarist. In 1988, he copied a speech from a British politician and used it as his own. He apparently did the same type of thing in college all the time. And Hillary has so many skeletons that I dont know how they all fit in her closet.

Bunch of morons we have running for president...I dont know how anyone can be happy about either field.

The idea of running an "Issue Awareness" campaign in parallel with a non-existent ( as yet ) presidential campaign is kinda interesting..

Gore can match Hillary's ability to generate money.  Bill Clinton is a known political infighter.

Gore can do NOTHING until a week before the democratic primary and waltz in as the front runner.

Hillary has to decide whether to use money going after the Retardlicans, or save it to go after Gore IF he runs.

None of the other Democratic candidates have any illusions about taking out Gore if he runs; they wont, they know it.  And if they try to tarnish him, he wont ask them to be vice president.

I would hate to be Billary.  Gore has her right where he wants her.

Barrel, lube, may I have another, Sir?

It's obviously *US*!

After the last 8 years, and the 8 years before it - we have had 16 years of undermining and destroying the middle class in various ways. The last 8 years have been particularly hard on us in terms of civil rights and the rule of law within our land.

We need someone that can really and truly lead us during a time of serious house cleaning and meaningful defense/rebuilding of the republic. But that's like asking for a miracle, I fear.

Look, there's pie in the sky!. No, wait - it's just a storm cloud...

We are far more likely to get a corporate cocksucker instead.

So me, I will stand and say that I am afraid for the republic.

I am scared.

Biden is a nitwit lol. He has the uncanny ability to fit both feet in his mouth.

fb, I disagree on both Obama and Bloomberg; sure, some wouldn't vote for them because of those things, but enough would.
