Talking about the icons on these boards here....

Is this generated by a programme or do users set their own levels.

Just not too happy to be defined by a vanilla icecream , as it were!

TIA

Oh... posts, right, I was just thinking back to when I was a young lad and me and these two neighborhood girls..

In any event, I think it was at 150 posts.

I am not sure yet, but every day I keep hoping that it will happen. Off to bed for me, sleep helps to fuel my Indecentcy, plus its where I'm a viking.

I second that, Ms Destiny.  The terms they've used, associated with how many posts a member has made to the forum, cause nothing but confusion.  Over and over again, people indicate their confusion about them, in the forum.

If you're not used to the convention of forums using cutsey titles like this, it appears as if these are how people are describing themselves.  The terms "vanilla," "curious," "newbie"? - I think that's one of them - are all real descriptors of a person's experience level.  And if a person was describing themselves as corrupted or deranged or indecent, it would certainly say something about that person.

If there's a moderator reading this, do consider either changing these terms, or just dropping them.  The number of posts for a member, is already indicated.

Edit: Ah, I see that *I* am a 'newbie,' according to this thing.  Perfect.

I kind of like the idea myself.  its  helps you determine who is vets and  who is rookies to the board and i think it helps  keep the idiotic trolls down since  cone arent taken with much weight while paddles  are taking with more  weight.

I have honestly never understood why a forum ranking icon or title (at the "newbie" level) bothers anyone. At CM it's 'vanilla' for the first X number of posts; on another forum I frequent it's 'virgin' for the first X number of posts. If the person's views are articulate, intelligent, and respectful, do people really discount what they say, just because they have been identified as 'vanilla' by an automated computer process? Maybe I'm weird, but I pay more attention to the words of the person, than the little thingie under their screen nick...

Actually there are some people that do take the number of post on a forum seriously.  I have been told on another forum that what I said did not have much merit because I only had a few post.

I started this life when a single computer filled a room.  So I don't take a message count very serious.  Just how experienced can someone be if they spend all their time on the computer posting to message boards?  I also seen people just answer anything with a word or two, not really add anything to the discussion.  I don't take people serious because of a high post count, in fact I tend to question their real life experience level.

Have to agree with your there CutieMouse. It's my thoughts that how the person expreses themselves reveal more then a icon! Even witht he amounts of posts I have, I still feel like a newbie at times, yet the joy of gaining knowledge which has me returning time and time again!

When i said with more weight i meant, someone with a paddle who has been here to post a thousand times even if its in the assoication thread,is more likely to be taken seriously because you know they are a regular user.

A cone can be a troll that uses the boards to draw attention to their profile(ie:  New thread by a cone "Whats wrong with my profile?")

You have more merit as  someone who reads and writes on the boards if you have more  post. For the most part those with paddles often have intelligent, even if sarcastic at times, advice to offer.

Those with questions usually ask questions that are asked  at least 3 times a month. Those with paddles get frustrated with this because  of a handy tool called  a forum search in which the  user LuckyAlbertoss( not sure on spelling  on the last part)  is a wiz at and will often post links  to topics covering said question.

I have to agree.  I am new here,  I am not necessarily new to the lifestyle.  What I have learned and adopted into my lifestlye, I have learned from those who are truly into the lifestyle.  I am a busy person with a real life and I do not have the time to read forums and reply to message boards.  I reply when I feel I have something worthwhile to say.  Otherwise, why waste my time or yours.  So please, don't assume I am not worthwhile just because I do not make a habit of posting.   I can just see it now... "Sir, You are going to have to wait a moment, i have to get my posting quota up so i can be taken seriously here!!!!"

I doubt anyone takes the number of posts they have seriously. You’d have to worry about what they are going to do if the site comes to an end if they did. Posts here don’t count for much in the big outside world. There will always be someone that has more posts than you.

I always figured it was something the powers that be do to encourage more participation on the forum.  I never thought it meant anything about the persons actual experience in the lifestyle.  But I was still glad when my vanilla cone was changed.

They have these post icons in almost every forum community, I think it's fun ^_^
They always start from loser to expert. It kinda gives you a goal to work towards.
