WASHINGTON - The attorney for a former White House aide told Congress on Saturday he expects the Bush administration to try to block the aide from testifying on last year’s firings of U.S. prosecutors, as the White House and Congress appeared headed for a court battle.
In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the attorney for former White House political aide Sara Taylor said she would be happy to testify, but she expects a letter from the White House directing her not to do so.

NEW YORK - The three Ali brothers — Saamir, Jamal and Fadi — were among those Iraqis elated when U.S.-led forces toppled Saddam Hussein. They eagerly offered their services as translators and suppliers for the troops.
Four years later, Jamal, the eldest, is dead — shot in front of his family at a Baghdad restaurant while resisting abduction. Fadi, the youngest, fled after a near-miss assassination attempt. He spent the past two years uprooted in Jordan, seeking a place of permanent refuge.
And Saamir, granted asylum in the United States, lives in New York City, struggling to find work, lucky to be alive. He still suffers the aftereffects of an insurgent’s bullet that slammed through his right cheek in 2004, tore a hole in the roof of his mouth and exited under his left eye.

SYDNEY - Australia warned on Sunday of possible imminent terrorist attacks in Indonesia, including on the resort island of Bali, and told its citizens to think twice before traveling there.
In an upgraded travel advisory, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said terrorists were actively planning attacks that could take place at any time.
