Level -> RE: ron paul (7/8/2007 8:28:43 AM)

Yeah, I saw him and Stephanapolis (sp???) too. Paul is a good man, and I find him pretty credible. I had never heard the story of him not allowing his kids to apply for government loans to help with college, sounds like he walks the walk.

And how about the guy after Paul? Gravel?

he seemed to be sincere also.....i hate politicians.....they can all sound sincere.

i swear i remember learning in school that politicians were meant to be regular people from the communities they served, then they  returned to the community....

i wish that was true-i guess you need a lil bit of knowledge, to know how the wheels turn, but to make a living, solely as a politician....well, when i get better at expressing my self, ill tell ya how that idea just makes no sense to me.

how many months til elections?[8|]

popeye1250 -> RE: ron paul (7/8/2007 10:31:38 AM)

I saw that Ron Paul won the N.H. straw poll by 67%.
He seems to be picking up steam.
I think it'd be nice to have a President named "Ron"
Oh, wait a minute..........

Ya know...everyone picks on this guy, and he doesn't know how to scrap in a dog fight...but the dude is the ONLY one of the entire bunch, on either side of the fence, that actually knows what the fuck is going on.

i got that feeling watching him-he seemed to be one smart cookie...

SBMaster -> RE: ron paul (7/8/2007 2:58:06 PM)

I would love it if Admiral GoofPaul won the nomination!  People around the country are demanding that the government do something to fix what they think is ailing the country.  Paul's solution is for the government to do nothing.

On a related note, why is it that these Libertatian wackos always come from the West?  The West actually pays less in taxes than it gets out in Federal benefits, and whenever there's a disaster, they're the first in line for government assistance.  I always found that amusing!

My feeling is that even folks who've been seduced by the darkside of corporate television will begin to open their eyes once they gain more exposure to this man.

He is not perfect by a long shot....and I can't stand his views on abortion....but clearly he is a much better choice than one of these ''tell ya what ya wanna hear'' corporate cocksuckers they have running around.

If we end up with Wudy or Billiary or one of these other ''bought and paid for'' corporate shills.....the public will be plagued with another eight years of this crapy ''war on terror'' bullshit....where it and all our evil, made-up, fictitious enemies will DOMINATE the news EVERY single day. I just seriously wonder how many people are getting tired of this?

Hey.....even if you don't like Paul or you find something about him that just won't work for you if he were to become President.....at least take a good look at Gravelle or another candidate that isn't tied to these big-monied interests {There's a few out there}

The sad thing is…as alternatives like Ron Paul -- who preach pragmatism and common sense--- begin to gain steam, the big-monied interests and their shills will push harder and harder to exclude and /or eliminate them from the national spotlight.

They're scared to death that the common sense of the American people will begin to take hold.

His solution is to transfer power from the federal government to the state governments and communities. That is kinda how this country was designed to work. So, yeah, the federal government would be providing less benefits/hamperance(depending on viewpoint) but it would be up to the states if they want to offer a replacement to those services or not.  He basicly doesn't believe in the federal government micromanaging things that used to be state by state decisions.

More choices , more options, and more specific solutions to specific state and community problems. Solutions coming from the state, and communities, not Washington D.C.  You can't honestly be against that, or can you?

Most of what Ron Paul says is in regards to the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Please don't apply what he says, to the state level, they will have more power in relation to the Federal government if he had his way, and I'm all for that.

I've watched and read everything I can get a hold of for the last few months in regards to Ron Paul, so, I'm not mistaken here, and if you insist I'm sure I can scrounge up a reference for you if you really want one.

(Dat would be because we're always inventing shit that changes the world...like the first personal computer....the biggest sofwtare company on the planet....jets....and of course, coffee stands...all of which bring katrillions of dollars from all over the world to land in all ya'll's back yard).

I guess everything old is new again.  Good ole Andy Jackson had the same idea.  He destroyed the Bank of the United States and refused to support any sort of national infrastructure, arguing that this was the domain of the states.

The result?  The destruction of the Bank led to an immediate economic depression, followed by the infamous "Panic" cycles of depressions every few years.  And of course, "states rights" led to...you guessed it--extreme sectionalism and the Civil War.

That's the problem with Libertarians.  They don't know our history.

DomKen -> RE: ron paul (7/8/2007 8:05:50 PM)

How many people who support Ron Paul got any sort of federal money for college? They're all hypocrites.

How many people who support Ron Paul are receiving SS benefits or include those benefits in their retirement planning? More hypocrites.

Virtually everyone reading this article who is a US citizen would not be a US citizen if Paul had his way. So unless you can prove that your immigrant ancestors all became naturalized citizens or were resident in the colonies in 1776 you should not vote for Paul simply because who doesn't believe you should have the right to vote for anyone.

Ron Paul opposes the federal laws that control air pollution. Note that as an interstate phenomena state regulations in your home state would not necessarily protect you. Does anyone anywhere think it would be wise to trust the governments of their neighboring states to protect their air quality?

I'll note his desire to criminalize miscarriage but see no need to comment on it any further.

He talks an exceptionally good game but his politics are extreme and many of his proposals would be very bad for America.

More than the central bank has happened since then, there was very little stock market oversite, virtual monopolies were all the rage, Blatant market manipulation, etc.... I think many people attribute most of the good things that have happened to the fed, when they don't really deserve the credit.  Didn't the great depression happen  under the fed? Didn't the out of control inflation of the seventies happen under the fed, didn't the tech bubble crash under the fed(began pre-9-11 by the way, look at the stock charts). And aren't we completely and totally in debt to the point we have to prop up the dollar at gun point?  Hasn't the real buying power of the american citizens decreased decade on top of decade.

I'm not impressed...

You seem to assume that other regulations would go poof, many of which are good and necessary, in my view.  I don't believe in monopolies or stock manipulation, or monetary manipulation.

Even if Ron Paul was elected for 8 years he wouldn't be able to dismantle more than the FED, and maybe the IRS. He just wouldn't have time to do much more than that in my opinion.

Please cite this, I've not seen anything, but random bashers say such things and they never give a reference. I'd like one. If he in fact believes that he'll lose my support.

Paul introduced H.R. 775 the "Sanctity of Life Act of 2005" which would have legally made human life begin at conception which would have the effect of making the pregnant woman legally responsible for the welfare of the fetus as if it was a full fledged person. This would make many miscarriages involuntary manslaughter.

I'll read it... and post tommorow,(assuming it will be long).

NeedToUseYou -> RE: ron paul (7/8/2007 8:28:10 PM)

The first source states it's HR 776, not 775, if anyone else wants to read it.

http://www.theorator.com/bills109/house/bill_number16.html

I just posted that link to show the HR number, not as a definitive source of the bills contents

Eruditus -> RE: ron paul (7/8/2007 8:47:40 PM)

I saw that interview with Stephanopolis...who was basically a dick, and told Mr. Paul that his dream of becoming President was "never gonna happen." Which made me want to use Georgie's tongue as toilet paper. So mean! Poor Mr. Paul had to backpedal, and damned if it didn't make me like the guy more. Made me want to vote for him, instead of the current roster of potzers, who parade around Iowa as if they're the only ones with a right to run. Am I alone in wanting a more complete list of choices? I don't like any of the frontrunners, and that includes Hillary with her disgusting cankles and Osama bin Barak. Dude doesn't even have an American name. Why should I vote for someone who doesn't even have an American name? For the life of me I can't fathom it. Besides, he has this patina of sleaze about him which I despise.

As far as Mr. Paul's voting record is concerned...how can anyone make the claim that the "Sanctity of Life Act" would criminalize miscarriages? That's absurd. I mean, all of a sudden this forum's filled with legal experts. Let me guess, those of us who discourse so knowledgably about constitutional law are probably tax attorneys and brain surgeons as well.

Nobody in their right mind would charge a woman who naturally miscarries with involuntary manslaughter. I think the bill is meant to apply to women who drink lye cocktails or who pummel themselves in the gut or who otherwise try to kill their fetus themselves. Without miring myself in that particular boondoggle, I just want to point out that there's a massive difference between locking up a woman who spontaneously and naturally aborts versus a woman who impales herself with a broom handle because Junior's gonna ruin her chances of getting on American Idol.

Joke: What's the favorite television show in Jerusalem? American Oidol. Hahahahahaha!
