OK, I have read several questions and responses to keeping up the house. I can never seen to fit everything in and a few people have stated that they stick to a schedule. If I may ask, What exactly is your scheduled daily duties (if you have a schedule)on a weekly basis? Ya know....Monday chores , tuesday chores etc... I am just curious as to what system fellow slaves/subs have in effect.

Well I'm still getting my schedule down pat, but have made tremendous strides with it...lol. Upstairs gets done on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and downstairs gets done on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Every day I try to do one thing towards my goal of getting all the closets organized, cabinets wiped out, unused items discarded, etc. Of course there are daily things to be done as well, such as beds made, laundry done, dishes done, etc.

Progress is being made [:D]

best regards,
fate

Edited to add that someone in the other thread posted a link to the flylady's website. I'd seen it before, but never really spent the time to look at it in depth. There are some excellent checklists and suggestions there. Thanks to whomever posted it.

I think I need a strict detailed schedule or I am just going to procrastinate. LOL! Maybe I should make a list of all that needs to be done around the house and speak to my master of my problem and see what she would like me to do. I could wait till things get outta wack to wait for a schedule, but then I would be a bad Subby wouldn't I...LOL!!

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: Housework Schedules (6/17/2005 5:46:48 PM)

I don't have a strict schedule except that which I impose on myself. I have given one of my beaus a strict bedtime to help with his lack of time management and we continue to have discussions to help him get better at that.

When I house sit I have scheduled chores for when to water, when to feed kitties, when to take out trash, all that stuff, but it's more a general "when you get up" "before bed" type of thing.

If you are really bad, write out an actual schedule for yourself hour by hour, set a timer that goes off and set reasonable goals.

nonuts4thshoney -> RE: Housework Schedules (6/17/2005 5:52:54 PM)

Well I am not that bad. I just need to know what to do on certain days. I procrastinate and put things off for the next day. And before you know it...I got to much to do in one day. I think knowing what to do each day would work and I could do them at any time during the day as long as they were done before the days end.

Schedule????? What's that????? [:D]

The only thing I do at around the same time everyday is feed my kitties. Everything else gets done, eventually. [;)]

What I do is use colored index cards. I have one color for daily tasks, one color for weekly tasks (just one of these), monthly and so on.
The daily tasks are things like washing the dishes, making the bed, tidying the house in general (we only have four rooms so that is really easy), wiping down the bathroom (I can't handle a dirty bathroom) and things of that nature. The weekly tasks are things like washing the floors, cleaning out the 'fridge, scouring the bathroom, washing the sheets, doing laundry, cleaning out the "current documents drawer", cleaning the staircase (we have a cast iron staircase that gets really dusty), etc.
Monthly is things like paying bills, cleaning the oven, and other things that don't need to be done as often.

That may not work for everyone, and I am sure there are things that I have forgotten (I don't have the cards right in front of me right now), but I hope that helps.

Hmmm, I could try something like this. It's worth a shot to see if it helps me to better organize my daily chores.

Thanks for responding [:)]

This was worked out over several months, the amount of chores on any given day was established by how many hours we normally work that day (we work together, just different departments of the company). And believe me, there have been several "re-workings" over the past two years.

It was actually His idea to give me an "off day". He cooks that night, makes the lunches for the next day, straightens up, cleans the kitchen after dinner etc.

The "work out" varies by day, Sunday and Thursday I do 50 reps on the Nordic Rider, Monday and Friday I do crunches and free weights, Tuesday and Saturday I ride two miles on the stationery bike. (The working out was totally my idea...LOL. I wanted to do it, needed to do it, just couldn't seem to stick with it).

I never really spend more than 2 1/2 hrs at the most on chores on any given day, where as before I felt like I was killing myself between an outside job and everything that needed to be done around here. This is much more balanced.

nonuts4thshoney -> RE: Housework Schedules (6/17/2005 10:25:13 PM)

I like your list Maggie. It gave me a good idea for my own. I even liked how you through in the workouts. And I need time for this so I can stay in shape. I ran this one by my master and she approved of it and I think I have a shot at the one day off thing too. Thanks for your post. [:)]

wishful1 -> RE: Housework Schedules (6/17/2005 10:25:39 PM)

I used to get very stressed out over chores also, it was like I could not keep up. I have found that if I do things while I am on the phone (doesn't seem to be that often, but when I am talking on the phone it seems to be for at least an hour) I will sit down on the floor and clean out the drawer under the stove, clean out the frig, dust, things like that. It really has helped, and I don't feel like I am always behind.

It's really easy to at least get a "starting point". Just make a list of what all needs to be done to the house in order for it to be completely clean. Then divide it up so that it balances out and you aren't spending any one day feeling like you will never get it all done. Then just sit down after a week, move things around if you need to, do it again about two weeks later and just keep on until you get it where you want it. Everything done, but you aren't feeling totally trashed doing it.

I actually do my work out early in the morning before I wake him up, so in the evenings it's great.

I like your list MaggieLynn, very helpful!
