I am 47, and the older I get, I've noticed that my definition of what I consider to be "old" (in terms of chronologocal years) keeps changing. Right now my idea of someone being old is at the age of about 85 or so (I think someone else mentioned 85 as being what they consider "old" as well).

Maybe it isn't unusual for people to re-vamp their notion of the age they consider "old" as they themselves age. I remember when I was 23 or so, I thought 47 was ancient!~

People also live longer than they used to live. When I was 10 years old, my grandfather died at the age of 63, and at the time, that was considered a respectably long life to have lived. Now it would be considered "too early" to die a natural death - "too young" to die.

My dad is 73, and in near perfect health. I really don't think of him as "old", he looks pretty good for 73, and he doesn't color his hair or anything like that, he's just in pretty good shape for a 73 year old guy. He is also very energetic, and still plays lots of golf. I expect him to live to be at least 90 (his own father, my grandfather, lived to be 92. For the record, I do consider 92 years to be "old").

Old is when you can no longer remember the name of the pet dinosaur you had as a kid.. Seriously though, it isn't so much a concern with age as with health. BDSM is often physically stressful. The heart rate is raised. Joints are stressed. While you may be a very vital 64 year old, the reality is you're more likely to suffer complications from being hit with an inch thick bit of wood than a person in their 40s. Most people your age are less flexible, their skin is becoming more fragile and their bones are starting to become brittle. That may not be true of you, but unless you offer someone the report from a recent full physical, how are they to know that you'll not tear a muscle trying to do those weird positions they want to try?

And yes, age does offer some compensations. Personally, I was willing to be the first Domme for a 69 year old man. (I was 34 at the time.) After I interviewed him and weighed the pros and cons, including his physical health (penile implant) I decided to give him a chance. He chickened out and stood me up for our next vanilla date without notification. (We weren't even near playing. I'd just agreed that our dating would lead to playing down the road.)  Just goes to show that age doesn't always bring about grace or maturity.
