Is there anything more boring to read than song lyrics? What next - quoting bible verse as argument? Has the educational system made people so incapable of taking a position and making an intelligent point without name calling and profanity that we are reduced using song lyrics?

I personally can't think of anything worse or more boring than quoting song lyrics to make one's point.  Unless it's quoting old poems:  http://www.collarchat.com/m_1044729/mpage_4/tm.htm  (Post #78) [;)]

I myself have used song lyrics (and Bible verses by the way) to emphasize a point just as you did with that poem.  It doesn't mean I'm "incapable of taking a position" or "making an intelligent point" anymore than you quoting poetry means that about you.  And, even though I couldn't resist pointing that out in order to beg a bit of understanding[;)], I personally have always loved the poem you quoted and actually had printed it out.  It's cool to use all these things from time to time to drive a point home, I think, as long as they aren't substituted for intelligent points or used in lieu of taking a position.  And I know neither you, I, nor FargleBargle does that......luci

Mercnbeth,
[sarcasm]
I agree that the world will be a happier and better place when everybody on it subscribes to your bitter disaffection , cynicism, hopelessness, and feelings of helplessness about doing something, anything, to try to make it a better place for oneself and other people.

I agree that it is so much easier to go through life screwing up the world as much as possible, in the belief that the old adage "He who dies with the most toys wins" is true.[/sarcasm]

Sinergy

That's sarcasm? How weak?

Bitter? Quite the contrary, I've never been happier. I enjoy pointing out the hypocrisy of these movements. Hopeless? Not at all - the lack of attention and failure that was this event brings me great hope that more people are seeing through the bullshit - perhaps someday so will you. I am however very cynical and hope to continue to remain so. Otherwise I could end up like you - just doing something or believing something based upon the source, and worse - never considering or reading any source in opposition. But then I guess in doing so - you aren't cynical. Well - good for you!

Sorry I offended your messiah. Now that was sarcastic.

The "He who dies..." quote isn't my belief. I say - "He who dies with the most toys - still dies". It's a tie with everyone who didn't have as many toys with which to play. But I do enjoy all of mine, without guilt or concern for what people think.

I know in your case, its better to threaten minors with a good butt fucking to 'train' them - right? Oh, I forgot-you just do that - you don't agree with the method, but don't have the guts to challenge your 'boss'. Besides it reeks of "good intent", and that's all that is required for you to buy into the program.

Sounds like Sinergy's having a relapse.
Letterman tonight was talking about this earth thing concert tonight and about Al Gore's kid who got busted with the rolling drugstore.
He called him "An Inconvenient Son."

Love what you have to say Merc, the whole global warming thing is just a way to frighten the people into paying more tax to save us from the dreaded evil that is coming. I think the mafia call it protection.
It is all so much bad science, how the hell can CO2 end up in the stratosphere, its heavier than both the nitrogen and oxygen that our air is made up of, why do think they made fire extinguishing systems using the stuff. Because it falls down and smothers the flame pushing oxygen away from the heat. Since all green plants feed on CO2, it is really handy that it does fall down. Maybe big Al, didn't do basic science at school lol. Then again he's a politician and just wants to put his bloody great carbon footprint into our lives.
This wonderful earth isn't in danger, long after we have gone because we have destroyed each other, it will return to it's usual cycles.
Cheers C
